WHY would you think a radio would have a problem with baseball? Are you a troll out for laughs?

No, it's batteries only. My other pocket radio has less static than this one.

will it work around 1250 to 1380 in AM mode?

In a nutshell, yes. I have often used it to get an AM station which broadcasts on the 1340 frequency. Someone named "Suzie" commented, "My FM never works." But that is an irrelevant comment, a non-answer, because you had asked about AM frequencies, not FM.
