Wondering what the deal is with this new 20 watt 2000 lumens led bulb vs the earlier 17w 2000 lumen version? Read on to find out
Around half a year ago, Philips launched their LED bulb lineup. The ones with the B22 base topped out at 17 watt having a max brightness output of 2000 lumens. The lumens efficiency was quoted as 118. The MRP on those bulbs were around 915 INR and price now is around INR 400. I was very satisfied by the earlier product, and it was amazing for how much power it consumed. The only problem was that it was expensive. Other brands took notice of this and came out with their own bulbs which had higher wattage specification to attract customers, and it worked. People bought into those bulbs thinking that they would get better brightness but that wasn't usually the case.Fast forward 6 months or so, and you see this new 20 watt version from Philips, which is priced lesser than half the MRP of the earlier 17 watt version [915 vs 420 INR], you can get one for around 300 INR and the price is sure to drop to around 200-250 mark. They kept the lumens output the same. So if you are thinking that the 20 watt bulb will be brighter than the earlier 17 watt version, then prepare to be disappointed. On the bright side, we will certainly be able to get high output bulbs like these for 200-250 by the end of this year or so.---------------------Now to the main differences between the 17 watt version and the 20 watt version, note that I am posting these observations comparing three of these 20 watt bulbs with three of the earlier 17 watt bulbs.1. There is very little difference between the brightness of the two bulbs. If I had to pick one, I would say that the 20 watt version is slightly brighter than the 17 watt version, but it isn't as significant as the jump in wattage would suggest.2. Its color temperature is ever so slightly warmer than the 6500k of the 17 watt version, since it is warmer than all the bulbs & tube lights in my house. All three of them were like that. If your version is any different please comment and let us know.3. There is no difference in size or shape between the two bulbs whatsoever.4. Believe it or not, the 17 watt version is heavier than the 20 watt version and this is noticeable. It probably has a larger heat sink to dissipate heat.5. The 20 watt version gets hotter than the 17 watt version, and that is to be expected given the higher wattage and smaller heat sink.6. The 17 watt bulb is 15 % more efficient than the 20 watt version.7. The 20 watt bulb is cheaper than the 17 watt version, by ~100INR, ie. 17 watt version is ~30% more expensive [INR300 vs INR 400].================================Conclusion & rating:----------------------------This bulb is cheaper than the 17 watt version, but still comes with the same 2 year warranty and brightness. Its also lighter. All in all a good product for the price, when you take competitors into account. Kudos to Philips for making them even more affordable for the masses. 5/5 for this product.Recommendations:---------------------------Get it, the product does what they advertise in terms of brightness, and is cheap. But if you can get a hold of the earlier 17 watt version, you should consider yourself lucky and get it asap before they take it off the market. It seems like Philips is replacing it with another 17 watt version which has lower brightness ~1700 lumens, so stay sharp.

Packaging was so bad
It's working great but the packaging was so bad, not the Amazon packaging but the bulb packaging. It soaked in some kind of perfume or oil. It was definitely placed in a wrong way in the store and something got leaked on its packaging.
