With an Introduction by Antonia Till. William Wordsworth (1771-1850) is the foremost of the English Romantic poets. He was much influenced by the events of the French Revolution in his youth, and he deliberately broke away from the artificial diction of the Augustan and neo-classical tradition of the eighteenth century. He sought to write in the language of ordinary men and women, of ordinary thoughts, sights and sounds, and his early poetry represents this fresh approach to his art. Wordsworth spent most of his adult life in the Lake District with his sister Dorothy and his wife Mary, by whom he had four children. His remarkable autobiographical poem 'The Prelude' was completed in 1805, but was not published until after his death, and it is included in this full edition of Wordsworth's poetry. Review: Lovely collection of Wordsworth poems - This book is beautifully presented for being less than £5! It is actually quite a brick of a book, which I wasn't expecting but was very happy about, and has a great selection of Wordsworth's poetry. I have been using this copy for my studies and because it is inexpensive, I am happy to annotate it. I am also collecting other books in this Wordsworth Classics series (publisher, not poet) and they all look nice together in my library shelves. Review: Great Value Reference Book - Good value for money. My old complete edition of Wordsworth's poems died of old age, so this is an excellent replacement, gives me access to my favourite poems, & also lets me browse others I don't know so well.

Great For Students!
I bought this book for my undergraduate dissertation, needing an edition of Wordsworth with a wide range of his poetry including lesser known pieces. This book did not disappoint, featuring poems I would not have found in other, more cherry-picked collections, but without the tiresome necessity of having to lug around larger editions. It is true, as previous reviewers have said, that the format is a little awkward. It is not the best choice for those with poor eyesight as the type is small and the pages split down the middle, but what do you expect for the price you pay? Besides, the book is chunky as it is; if the publishers were any more generous with paper you'd need a car-jack to get to the back pages! Great choice for students on a budget (there's still room in the margins for making short notes!), and those who want an expansive range of Wordsworth's poetry, just make sure you're aware that in terms of format you get what you pay for! PS. It may be worth mentioning that most of the poems in this edition seem to be Wordsworth's later redrafts, which often differ considerably from early versions (especially 'The Two Part Prelude' and poems written for 'Lyrical Ballads'), so if you are more interested in earlier drafts I would suggest looking elsewhere.

On this Edition
I was always perfectly happy with the Wordsworth Editions, novels, as well as poetry collections. Ironically in this case, the name giver has been a little ill-treated. The massive bulk of Wordsworth poetry(in almost cubic form) is here given at loss of: - line spacing, - and small type, and is therefore not recommendable to everyone. However this edition is very inclusive and of course is poems are great and very accesible. If you wonder which poet to take with you for a spring or summer walk: I say, Wordsworth(especially "The Prelude") is the man!

Buona lettura!
