Easy to install, easy to maintain, easy on the ears.
Item arrived well packaged with no issues. It was very easy to set up. I am using this on a 40 gallon reef coupled with a Eheim Compact+ 2000. I have seen some confusion with some posts as to how to connect plumbing to the output of the overflow. You do not connect anything via the threads, this is just for the collar to secure the bulkhead to the unit. The hole will accept 1" pvc. You will have to cement this in with pvc cement. I then connected a 1" PVC union to the output so that I could easily remove the overflow for maintenance. I used the ESHOPPS 6ft 1" corrugated hose to to connect the overflow down into my 20 gallon sump. The EHEIM is running at full power and simple connected 1" braided vinyl tubing to a barbed to PVC adacpter. 3/4". I then fashioned a return with three 90 degree elbows not cementing the last one in the tank so that I could twist it to any direction I wanted in the tank. Now for the unit itself. Well built, clean, and few parts to keep things simple. The U tube is of a consistent size and provides plenty of flow. One end of the tube goes in the skimmer box, which it heigh adjustable and the other end goes in the box. There is a compartment in the box that keeps some water in it so that the siphon is not broken in the event of a power failure. I tested this numerous times and when the power was reapplied, it started right up. When starting the siphon for the first time, I just put some airline into the tube and lightly sucked out the air. As soon as the water falls over the U, the siphon starts. EASY.I made a gurgle buster in anticipation of a noisy drain but found that the stock tube with foam is actually very quiet. I have no issue with noise. Just a gently sound of moving water which I find relaxing.Looking at my current set up, I think I should have gotten a EHEIM compact+ 3000 as there is still room for more flow in this box. But that is not the products fault. One thing I would like to have seen is a lid for the overflow chamber as well as it being a dark acrylic to reduce algae growth. Same for the U tube but nothing that is a show stopper.I was spooked by these overflow boxes in terms of reliability and hearing doom and gloom posts on some forums. If you perform proper reef keeping maintenance, there are no issues. I think issues reported were from lacking maintenance.I recommend this fully if you do not want to drill your tank. I am glad I got over my fear from lack of knowledge about how these things work.

Up and running in no time
I had a CPR Aquatics CS90 HOB overflow plus an Aqualifter. all worked well until the aqualifter lost power and the overflowing onto my hardwoods began. As the aqualifter is no longer available I had to find another solution. With this Eshopps, there is no need for the aqualifter. The 1"bulkhead was a seamless transition. The assembly was straightforward The siphon start was super easy, especially by filling the u-pipe all the way up with water and temporarily using Saran wrap as i set it in place. Though it was relatively quiet I still used my DIY Stockman Standpipe to make it even quieter

Fell short of expectations
Purchased this box for a 50g display with a 20g sump. I was targeting 300gph for a max flow rate and ordered a Quiet One 2200 for return duties. This hasnt arrived yet so I picked up a Rio 2100 for temporary use which matches the flow at 4' of head just about perfect (~300gph). The box didnt have any trouble keeping up with the flow of the 2100 wide open so I have little doubt that it is capable of doing roughly 300gph.The overflow box itself works, I cant say it work particularly well however. The teeth are very large, this issue here is twofold. First, it creates a lot of air bubbles that get sucked into the u-tube (which was cracked out of the box but I'll get to that later). At decent flow rates, this has no impact but since I'm running an algae turf scrubber, I had to throttle the return pump down a bit to get the desired flow. To get it right where I want, bubbles start to accumulate in the u-tube and will eventually grow large enough to break siphon. I'm willing to run a bit higher flow to keep this from happening but this creates excessive noise (my biggest issue with this box). The large teeth create a lot of noise on their own but the feed to the sump is very loud. I dont have the items to make a gurgle buster in my current location so I'll have to order those and suffer through the noise for a while (not the end of the world). They definitely could have helped these issues with smaller teeth on the surface skimmer and a better setup for the return. The u-tube arrived with a pretty good sized fracture across the bend. The shipping box was considerably larger than the Eshopps box and arrived in really good shape with no visible damage to the Eshopps packaging but the u-tube still had the crack. There is no way somebody didnt notice this when it was packaged at Eshopps yet it still went in the box anyways. While the fracture doesnt seem to leak any air, it still sucked to see a new product with an easy to notice defect right out of the box. I'll order another u-tube and it really isnt a big deal since it is functional but I apparently expected too much.My previous setup used a CPR overflow and while it had other issues I didnt care for (just about impossible to thoroughly clean), it was silent compared to the Eshopps).+Functions as advertisedEasy to setup-Poor quality controlExceptionally noisy without modification

Great product for the money.
This overflow does exactly what is is supposed to do. I have had a problem with bubbles accumulating in the U-tube from where the water fell into the overflow box and made it into the U-tube, but this may be because my tank could have a higher rate of flow. It also makes a lot of noise at the down pipe. However, both of these problems can be fixed with minor modification. I put a sponge in the overflow box to slow the water a little before entering the U-tube(no more bubbles) and I added an extra piece of PVC at the down pipe and now it runs great. This is a great product for the money and I would highly recommended it for the clever reefer on a budget. Lost one star because it had to be modified.
