Hayward C751 Star-Clear Plus 75-Square-Foot 1-1/2-Inch FIP Pipe Cartridge Pool Filter

I purchased this filter to replace an older sand filter that was not doing the job well. I live next to some agricultural area (soy field) and the pollen from soy bean plants is brutal on pools. My pool had become unusable for 5-6 of the best weeks of summer because in my experience sand filters just don't do pollen very well. Having not seen the bottom of my pool for at least a week, I was able to install this filter and re-route the plumbing which was all cut & paste PVC in less than half a day. (I'm not a plumber) Additional plumbing hardware to modify my existing pump and return system was less than $50. The next day, I saw the bottom of my pool. Two days after that and everyday since my pool is crisp and crystal clear like an alpine lake. Definitely would recommend this to friends or family.

I bought the filter at a great price. It came fast. I installed it very easily Very simple pvc installationt that took about 30 minutes. The cartridge filter works very well and I am pleased beyond belief.I clean it often(twice a month) .The cleaning takes maybe 10 minutes. Not a lot of time to have a very clean pool.My old sand filter was not doing the job. My pool is crystal clear and very pretty now.

Update: Purchased this in 2017, and got less than 4 years of service out of it. That might be acceptable, but my prior Pentair performed well for probably 15 years and I expect better quality from a good name like Hayward. I still agree that this filter cleans the water VERY well, but that's where my happiness stops. Over time it became impossible to latch down the lid completely and securely (latch system is a long metal rod that you screw the top down onto). It has been leaking for several months, just a steady small stream. This week it blew out completely, and it took several inches out of the pool level before I noticed. Unfortunately, it sprayed directly into my electrical control box (on/off switch for the pump). We reseated the lid two more times, and it blew out the side both times, before we placed an order for another Pentair. We're done with Hayward filters. Poor design caused it to fail MUCH earlier than it should have. Prior review: Bought this to replace another brand filter. It was easy to hook up and cleaned the pool water much quicker than I expected, and much quicker than our old filter system! Unlike other reviewers, we had no problems with the pressure gauge being damaged. It arrived intact, and in perfect condition. However, I could see from the packaging how the pressure gauge could easily be damaged, as it sticks out from the top of the lid and has very little protection in that position from the packaging. Overall, this is a perfect filter for our roughly 15,000 gallon pool and I expect we'll get many years of service out of it. We also have a Hayward in-line chlorinator, and it has been a real workhorse, too. I'm going to switch all of our equipment to Hayward now!

So after probably 15 years continued service the hot summer this year finally killed my pool pump . The whole system was very old so I decided to bite the bullet and replace the filter at the same time as the pump. The existing pump was Hayward so i replaced with the same unit due to its longevity and I chose the same brand for the filter . The only decision i tool a long time to make was sand filter ( as we had) or cartridge filter . A colleague had installed a cartridge filter systems so I checked his out , my main concern was the price of the filters . As I found out ( and you will see from another review) the costs was not that bad and typically the filters will last for years as long as you take them out and clean them at the end of the season . Now the original unit we got was damaged so they shipped a replacement the following week and picked up the faulty unit about a month later . The pressure we get from the filter for cleaning and just water flow around the pool is significantly better than the old sand filter , very pleased indeed

I really like the self bleeding design, ease of service, and the sturdy construction. This replaced an old Jacuzzi brand filter that was not as well built and was a pain to service. The price was competitive with other filters on the market and Hayward is a well known brand so it's not hard to get parts for.
