Is this suitable for galvanised field gates?

Hello, It is hard and thus it could perhaps knock some of the galvanising off with repeated use. To stop is knocking paint off my gate I glued some foam padding on it. To be extra sure, I also put some clear sticky-backed plastic on the gate itself to protect the gate from the latch. I hope this is of help?

What is the size of the bolt

The bolt I received was a dome head galvanised M8, 100mm long with a plastic lined locking nut. This was quite adequate to fix the throw-over through my 75mm gate, even with the extra steel washers I placed between the gate and the loop.
