I feel I need to first share my story and then talk about how nice the mat is to use. I'll give the micro cons at the end.My story:I have Celiac's disease and general inflammation problems. Hot yoga is a practice that not only keeps me in shape mentally and physically, but it helps my joint pain. I have been doing it for years. Last year I started getting a skin rash. First it was misdiagnosed for a few months, but once the doctor realized it was a heat rash (miliaria), it was quite the journey to figure out how to handle it. I needed my hot yoga practice! First the doctor had me looking at the food I was eatting. Well, I already eat a very low-inflammation diet, but I tried that for a couple months. My shoulders and arms just continued to let the rash spread no matter what I was eatting. I went back to the doctor and she suggested it could be due to contact, like clothes or anything my skin touches a lot. I did some research online and found that rubber mats (I was not using natural rubber, so I have no idea about that) are basically putting your open pores, that are already trying to sweat out whatever toxins are in your body, right up against a slew of harsh chemicals. I used yoga towels for a little while, which helped the rash to heal, but they are unbearably distracting to my focus during practice. So I did some reasearch and thought cork sounded like the best option. It makes sense, cork is the layer of protection trees use for themselves, perhaps it could protect my skin. It worked! With this mat I am no longer getting heat rash!! Even if you don't suffer from inflammation, I hope you consider my story. The chemicals from other mats are still impacting you and your health! Inflammation can really add up, believe me, I remember life before inflammation. Live as clean as you can now.How the mat works and feels:Secondly, even beyond the health benefits, I love love this mat. For me, I like a firm mat. I want it to make me feel like I am on a sturdy floor. When mats are too squishy, I begrudge balancing and standing poses. This mat has a significant squish layer, so I was a little concerned in my purchase, but the cork layer is also thick. It seems the cork layer really gives me the stability that I wanted. Yet, when I'm doing something that might otherwise be hard on the knees, say King Pigeon, there is a softness to it. Another thing I've found is that suddenly I can smoothly roll over my feet from upward dog to downward dog! I've been doing yoga for years, and didn't realize how much my old mat was inhibiting me! With this one, I just let go into my practice! I can't show enough gratitude here.Con, you might ask:Honestly, there really aren't any, but I personally like when a review comes from all sides. The only thing is that I didn't have a mat strap for a while, and this mat sucks to carry around without one. I've just never needed one before. I got a cotton one for $8, problem solved. And I'm very purposeful to roll the mat up loosely with the cork layer out. Yoloha says this helps with longevity of the product. I could see that with the cork. Also, some reviews I saw on various cork mats have said that the cork will flake off. I have seen no sign of this with my mat. And I do not go easy on my mat.I hope this helps you! Namaste. ### ⭐⭐ No good for hot yoga *by K***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2019* I wanted so badly to love this mat. I slipped and fell while trying to get into wheel pose. My mat was really sweaty, but yoloha claims that this mat is great for a hot practice. Also my hands would always slide forward in down dog, and I’d have to keep repositioning them. I did not feel safe or secure using this mat for hot yoga. The yoloha native is much better but the quality of the rubber underneath is lacking compared to this one. If doing regular not heated yoga, I would have probably kept this mat. The quality is fantastic and the smell is great. At first I wasn't sure I liked it, didn't really not like it but just wasn't sure. After repeated use I've come to enjoy my cork mat. It grips well, especially if I sprinkle water on it. It has a good amount of cushion. I think it just took me awhile to get use to it. Easy to clean (I use a Asutra mat cleaner) and dries fast.
