Man Alive: Transforming Your Seven Primal Needs into a Powerful Spiritual Life

I was introduced to this book by a friend as they were going to use it for an upcoming Men's Bible Study. He lent it to me on a Saturday, I was so impressed with the subject matter and great writing style of the author, I ordered it and had my own copy by Wednesday morning. As I read through this book I kept saying to myself how lucky I was to receive this book at exactly the right time in my life and honestly, feel like the author wrote this book specifically for me to read. In essence this book clearly explains how important it is for men to set the Christian example in their families through their association with other Christian men using small study groups. The key to being a successful and active Christian is to be active and associated with other Christian men, constantly supporting each other. This book is a must read for the above reasons, an outstanding book to be utilized for a small Men's Bible Study group and easily read to receive the message. An excellent book at an excellent price through Amazon.com. I highly recommend it for a group or and individual.

It is funny how God works sometimes as I have taken the time to take in the stories from Patrick and the ways us Men can be alive. The first few chapters were about finding out who we really are, then how we must treat our wives and children. I thought it was interesting and funny that Patrick had to bribe his children to read the Bible and go to church. I know it is much harder getting any young person to attend church, but what caught my eye out of the whole book was the very last chapter where it really reaches everyone and like Francis Schaffer said that everyone is ordained by God to reach their community for Jesus.As a pastor that works at a theme park I believe that God has brought me there to be a witness to those who may hate or despise God and he could be testing my faith as I have seen so many people from all walks of life attend a theme park. There are days I feel like I am being persecuted for my faith and question why God has not given me a job closer to home since that time some people sense that I am angry, but I try to be happy. As a man who has responsibilities to my family, church, and paying bills. Some months I do no know where the money is coming from. I believe with all my heart God will meet my circumstances and continuing making me the Man of God he wants me to be. I do plan on using this book for teaching, because it has become so relevant in my life as I continue to soak in the information and share it with others to let God work in their own lives. The Wesleyan Church has a new slogan titled "Made New" which goes along the lines of this book.Being "Made New" we must be changed on the inside and get right with God then take what we have learned from our personal lives to start "Made New" Gatherings wherever we are. After all this is what Paul did on the Damascus road.

All men, not just Christian men, need to identify, acknowledge and understand their needs. According to Pat Morley, men have 7 primal needs which must be met for us to lead lives of fulfillment. Perhaps there are only seven, I don't know for sure, but I do know that if we get these seven, the remainder will seem pretty insignificant.Many years ago, I read Bob Buford's book "Half Time". That book had a profound influence on my life and its direction. Morley's "Man Alive" takes what I learned in "Half Time" and adds some practical "How To's" which will help significantly in my journey to become who God created me to be. As a part of that journey, I am close to completing a Masters in Leadership of Ministry and this book is one of our textbooks. From a theological perspective, "Man Alive" is pretty basic. But for the 90% of men who lead defeated, mundane, work-a-day, treadmill lives, this book is a great source of encouragement.We are not alone and all of us as men struggle with the same personal issues of anger, impatience, insecurity, pride, need for validation, control and others. This book will help you gain some insight that will enable you to look in the virtual mirror and love yourself as you grow.Not only did I find "Man Alive" to be excellent as a personal read, it is also an outstanding tool for a group of men. This past spring, I used the book and the 8 video sessions from [...] to lead a small group of 15 men. We spent one hour prior to church each Sunday viewing the videos, followed by round table discussion in groups of 5 or 6. It was an outstanding exercise in helping men grow and begin seeing themselves as God sees them. "Man Alive" helps us as men see what God sees us becoming and gives us some of the tools we need to help us get there. I heartily recommend "Man Alive" to any man interested in becoming a better man, no matter where you are on your spiritual journey.

Patrick Morley has taken all of the key lessons he has learned personally and in his work with men to summarize the greatest core needs of a man's life and how to get there. I deeply appreciated his simplicity and yet profound wisdom. In many ways, it felt like I was sitting down with a father or grandfather and allowing him to help me navigate the realities of being a man and the deepest spiritual desires of my heart.

There were many times, as I read, I wanted to stop and run purchase some hockey goalie hear for protection but God had other thoughts. He was ready to move forward . . .off the mark I*d been on for some time.

This book was not complex in its writing and reading, but yet it was profound in its impact. Mr. Morley uses his decades of Men's Ministry experiences to speak what I believe is the heart and soul of men.As a minister men myself I will be able to use this invaluable resource to help reach and grow men for the glory of God.

Liked the read…fast one bit to the point and good for men!

Awesome book

The chapters are short and to the point. I read this in one sitting it was that good I could not put it down. Now I have finished it I need to go out and make the changes.
