The 5 micron sediment filter captures sediment and other particulate particles that affect the taste and appearance of the water. Activated carbon in the filter reduces chlorine and regulates water before RO membrane. Both sediment and carbon filters are rated for 1,500 gallons of water before replacement. In addition, the sediment cartridge housing is made of a special translucent material that allows you to see the build up of the cartridge itself. After the water is filtered by the membrane, a small amount of dissolved solids (TDS) remain in the water. For some non-potable water applications, it is important to remove the remaining TDS from the water. This is accomplished by filtering water through charged resin with cationic and anion resins (H+ and OH-).
