Finally, I found what I was looking for!
I have been looking for a soundbar with great sound and design, yet budget conscious price. I can confidently say that BYL soundbar gave me exactly what I needed from ALL perspectives. And because I had to try at least 4 different ones and finally found what I loved, I decided to write a long review. My daughter and her friend helped me with the testing, so I need to recognize their help. First of all, I do not like the ones that are not very long, they look weird under the TV. BYL is 40 inches and it aligns very well with the TV. Its design is also very nice with angular front and with solid legs making the setup very attractive looking. I am attaching pictures for that. Amazon Basics model I tried is just 32 inches and it really looked bad under the TV. And in order to form a reference point, we tested and used BYL soundbar and Amazon basics soundbar to build an informed comparison for overall review and decision. We watched a movie using the Amazon basics soundbar (in movie mode), and we quickly noticed that the voices of male actors were at a frequency lower than what the soundbar could handle, as it was more of an unintelligible buzzing; we strained our ears to decipher what they were saying most of the time, as the higher frequencies in their voices were often overshadowed by the low rumbling. After watching the movie, we connected BYL soundbar, and we tested the same scene described above, and the difference was quite noticeable. Male actor voices were much clearer, and while there were still low frequencies, it was more of a bass effect making it perfectly fine to understand what they are saying. Overall it was a night and day difference. BYL was a clear winner! We proceeded to play the same song on both soundbars ("Car Radio" by twenty-one pilots). The bass of the BYL thundered through the ground and into our feet and it was also better than the Amazon Basics one in terms of bass and clarity of the sounds. We then played a speaker test off of YouTube on each soundbar. With this, the differences were astounding. The BYL soundbar held up as the sound frequency increased from low to high (20 Hz to ~22,000 Hz), and the buildup of frequencies was literally palpable in the air. The Amazon Basics one, however, was more like a constant whine, with scratches and buzzes and rumbles here and there. This test sealed it obviously that BYL is an amazing soundbar. Finally, each soundbar has a remote, which features various commands, such as Bluetooth, volume increase and decrease, and sound settings (movie, news, etc.). The BYL soundbar has more of these sound settings, and it also has options to control the treble and base of the audio directly, whereas the Amazon soundbar does not provide that option. And of course, BYL has the infrared learning. With all those amazing features, sound quality and beautiful design, BYL is arguably the best soundbar to get. Strongly recommended!

Great Sound. Unfortunately, USB Won't Play WMA Files, and turns on after power blinks
Update 01/11/2019: Changing my rating from "5" to "4" until support resolves the following problem. This sound bar turns itself on when connected to power. If you turn it off, and your electricity goes off and on, the sound bar turns on. If you have a USB drive inserted, music will start playing. I returned home the other day to find music playing. I now have to unplug the sound bar when I'm not using it. I told support that this is unacceptable, and that they need to fix it with a firmware update. Other than this problem, and the problem with it not playing WMA music files, I'm very happy with the sound bar. Update 12/15/2018: Changed my rating back to "5", from "4", due to their excellent, in my experience, customer service. I emailed them, they emailed back the next day, with a firmware update. I applied update, but it still won't play WMA files; it quit shutting itself off though, whenever a WMA file was encountered, so I don't think I will be unplugging it all the time now. Based on other reviews, there doesn't seem to be anyone else wanting this sound bar to play USB music. *** Where did all these other reviews come from all of a sudden? There were less than 20 one day, and 159 the next. Did they combine reviews from another sound bar? Update 12/14/2018: I've finally figured out the problem with playing Music Files using the USB port. It won't play Windows WMA files, which is what most of my music is. It only plays MP3 files (maybe MP4?). Once a WMA file is encountered, the sound bar switches off, and must be reset by unplugging it. This should be documented. You can insert new USB flash drives while the sound bar is on, just switch it to Optical first (sound bar will switch to USB once a flash drive is inserted). I've encountered zero problems using Optical and Bluetooth. Review for: 100Watt 40 Inch Soundbar, BYL Sound Bar Wireless and Wired Audio Bluetooth TV Speakers with Learning Function (2018 Beef Up Version, 60 Days Home Trial). 12/08/2018 Update: I'm dropping my rating from 5 to 4, because I haven't yet been able to arrange music on a 16 GB USB flash drive to make the sound bar play music without shutting itself down. If music plays at all, the sound bar circuit breaker (?) shuts the sound bar off after an hour or two. I have to reset it by unplugging the sound bar. I really wanted to be able to have music playing all night while I sleep. At first I thought I had too much music on the USB drive, so I made one with only about 15 music folders (albums). It played, but the sound bar shut off after about 90 minutes. I thought this may happen when the sound bar has to switch from one music folder to the next, so I made a flash drive with only songs, no music. I copied songs from about 15 music folders to the drive, but the sound bar didn't play at all. I will continue to try to get USB to work properly, or at least acceptably. I don't want to return this sound bar, because I really like it. I haven't listened to Optical, Aux, or Bluetooth long enough to know if the sound bar shuts off, regardless of input. And, after listening more to the sound bar, I'm not sure if I want to give it 5 stars, or 4. Ordered on Cyber Monday, 11/26/2018. Received Monday, 12/03/2018 (shipped UPS). Wow! I'm impressed so far. The sound bar was well packed, arrived undamaged, and nothing was missing. I am astounded by how massive this sound bar is. It is much bulkier than I imagined, which pleases me. The front mesh is not fabric; it is thin metal or plastic, with tiny holes. The attached brackets that the sound bar rests upon, are metal , and on the bottom, so the speaker drivers face forward when the sound bar is laying flat on a surface. These brackets bend at a 90 degree angle in the back, and in this upward portion of the brackets, are the mounting holes. This thoughtful design allows the speaker drivers to face forward when the sound bar is attached to the wall (I was concerned about this). These mounting holes are the slotted type that when you insert the screw head into the hole, then push downward on the sound bar, it locks in place. The mounting holes are 23 inches apart. It would have made it much easier if they were 16 inches apart, the standard distance between wall studs, but that is not what I had to deal with. I didn't want to use drywall anchors; I wanted the support of the wooded wall studs. So I took a 3 inch wide board, 3/4 inch thick, about 36 inches long, and mounted in to the wall studs, through the drywall, centered under the wall mounted TV. From the center of this board, I drilled holes and screwed in two sheet metal screws, 11.5 inches on each side of center, making the distance between the screws 23 inches, equaling the distance between the holes in the mounting brackets. It is best to use screws with heads just slightly smaller than the big holes in the brackets. If you don't screw the screws in enough, the sound bar will lean forward (only leave about .2 inch between the screw head and the board, just enough for the bracket to slide in). It would make it easier taking the sound bar on and off if you have the optional wall brackets, which are mounted to the wall, and then the sound bar brackets just slide down on the wall brackets. It would be a lot easier to do that, than finding the holes like I have to do now. But, once I have it installed on the sheet metal screws, I won't be taking it off again in the near future. I think the sound is fantastic. If you told me it was a 5 thousand dollar sound bar, I'd believe it. I think there is plenty of bass (sometimes I turn it down post reset). If you told me it had a built-in subwoofer, I'd believe it. I turned it up to max briefly while listening to "Body Language" by Queen, and the powerful bass sounded great. The bass has a punch to it. I have it hooked up via optical (TV), Aux (music player), USB (16GB Flash Drive), and use Bluetooth using my Samsung Galaxy S7. Bluetooth paired successfully on the second attempt, and connects now when the sound bar is set to Bluetooth, and I turn Bluetooth on in my phone. My music player works, and so does the optical to my new Samsung 4K TV. I couldn't get optical to work from my 8 year old Sony LCD TV. I was told the max GB for USB is 32. I am using 16GB flash drives. The first drive I used, the sound bar turned itself off after a few songs. I had to unplug it to reset it. Because there is no random play, or other advanced music player options (I have found the only available navigation is advance to next song, or previous song), I see no point putting a lot of music on the drive. I experimented by reformatting a USB drive, and then copying about 15 albums to it. While the sound bar was turned off, I connected the USB drive, turned the sound bar on, and selected USB using the remote. The songs played in order, and played for at least an hour without shutting off. Changing USB flash drives is not real easy, considering the location of the USB port, so I use a 12" long USB extension cord. All the ports are located in the middle of the sound bar, and accessed underneath. Half of the sound bar is like cut out in the back, leaving a vertical wall containing the ports. Plugs insert into this vertical wall, and must be pushed inwards, towards the front. So, inserting plugs isn't that easy. Some people say the remote control is cheap. I don't want to go into details, but my new remote was violently thrown into a wall, dislodging the batteries. I put it back together, and it still works like new. I am very happy with this purchase, and hope the sound bar performs flawlessly for years.

Great Speaker, Great Sound, Great Support
In 2011 my dad gave me his old stereo system, which was already dented and beat up and at least as old as I was. It was huge, heavy, had so many cords and wires and parts and everything, but it stayed with me for 8 years anyway. When I was minimizing my possessions lately I realized it was finally time to replace the old thing, so I did some comparison shopping on Amazon for speaker bars. I was willing to spend a few hundred on something great, but didn't want to spend needlessly. I do like great sound quality but I'm not one of those people that only listens to FLAC files or something. Anyway, this is the one I settled on, for a great price too. When it arrived in the mail a couple days later, I was super excited... until I took it out of the box and heard a part rattling around inside. Somehow part of the front plastic grating, beneath the speaker cloth, had broken and was loose in there. No idea how that happened, the packaging was pretty good so I think it was a total fluke. I emailed the support address and got a human reply back in minutes, immediately offering to send a replacement. Wow. They expedited the shipping and got it to me in another day or two and followed up and everything. Got the new one, hooked it up, and oh man it works GREAT. The remote is a good smaller size, love that it has individual buttons for each input mode, love that it has individual buttons for Bass +, Bass -, Treb +, and Treb -... maybe it's a little thing but I hate when remotes have just one "EQ" button. This makes it easy. Batteries included too. The bluetooth works great with my phone and even my desktop computer. I love "movie mode", it makes the sound VERY good. I don't personally care for music mode and dialog mode but I can see how they'd be helpful for others. It looks great too! Came with a mounting kit and cardboard to show you where to drill the holes and everything, very handy. If I have one complaint it's that when you switch to bluetooth it resets to be VERY loud, so you gotta make sure you turn it down before you start playing music. But it has an audio reminder so you don't forget anyway. All in all this speaker is amazing and I'd highly recommend it. Great company with support too.

Most bang for the buck you will find
I purchased this to replace a smaller sound bar I had on the living room TV that could put out enough volume for many TV shows and movies. I have been through several "budget" sound bars, and this is by far the best I have found in the budget category. 1) Packaging could be better. It's not packaged in a solid styrofoam sleeve. There a just several small styrofoam rings that enclose it, leave huge unprotcted gaps. Mine arrive with a hole in the box. When I opened it to inspect it, the cloth covering the face of the sound bar had a small tear in it (photo of damage attached). I had to look closely to see it, and it certainly isn't noticeable from a distance, so I decided that if it functioned well it wasn't worth returning. Still I was tempted to knock a star off for poor packaging. 2). Set up is extremely easy and quick, and it has volume to spare. I will qualify that by saying that this is a TV speaker that I use for watching shows, sports and movies. I'm not trying to blast music at 120db and expect a zero distortion output. I am deaf in one ear and have a 20% hearing loss in the other ear, so volume was more important for me than quality, although I will say the sound quality from this bar is excellent. You won't notice much distortion until you get above 75% volume. At full volume it does start sounding a bit tinny, but you can adjust treble and bass with the remote to compensate for that a bit. I doubt you will ever need to use this at full volume, however. 3). Bottom line, with the sale price and Amazon coupon I picked this up for under $100. You won't come close to finding a sound bar anywhere this good at that price point -- not even at the big discount stores. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again. Very happy with this product.

Great sound bar with some integration issues
I purchased this for my folks and set it up for them on their 60" screen. As with most TVs, the native sound functionality is weak at best, and my folks have poor hearing. I can tell you their faces lit up after we installed this and they love it. But let me leave you with these concerns: 1. We had hoped to be able to set aside the accompanying remote control and just use the TVs controller. Few of us like to juggle remotes. We discovered that this integration was not possible with the included cables. So I ordered an quality HDMI cables and now my folks don't need the sound-bar remote (with one exception, next) 2. My folks can happily use their TV remote to adjust sound bar volume EXCEPT for within the Netflix app (this is a smart TV with built in OS). This problem does not exist within any other streaming service or with the cable service. Just Netflix. I did find some information online about how to fix this but it didn't work for us. 3. I found the instructions poorly written and the sections disorganized. I get the feeling they are trying to cover too much material in just a few pages. Do be sure to measure the space where you think you want this item to go. Hope this helps

Works great.
This is a very nice speaker. Sound is steady and nice. No static. Has different settings such as movie. I love this speaker. It is a little heavy that’s the only issue.

5 year life span, great sound and LOUD
This sound bar lasted 5 years. I purchased the smaller 34” unit in December 2020 and it has suddenly crapped out. During the duration of its life, it worked great. Great sound quality, integrated through my TCL tv using the optical cord, no issues with sound on any apps within the TV. I also used it frequently via Bluetooth for my record player and other apps. The sound on this is LOUD, the bass is great, better than a Sony sound bar I bought for my mom. I will likely be purchasing another one as I know the quality of this one is great for the cheap price. The only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars is because it suddenly stopped working. White light is on but no buttons on the unit or the remote are working. Unplugging overnight did not resolve the issue. I’m not sure the normal life of a sound bar but if 5 years is a standard life span, then i recommend this sound bar.

Excelente calidad

The soundbar started switching to ARC within seconds of connecting to AUX or Bluetooth.
10/13/23 The soundbar started switching to ARC within seconds of connecting to AUX or Bluetooth. Rendering the othe capabilities unusable. Exactly 1 yr after purchase I wrote to the customer service and its been a month and still no response from them after multiple reminders. So I would say no after sales support. Careful when buying the product.
