what does the 3 way mean? it is not explained on the box. just 50 / 100 / 150 watts

It means this bulb was designed to be used in a 3-Way Lamp Socket. A socket made so that it can be turned for low, medium or high settings.

I think i have read all i can on the page but does this bulb get extremely hot? I have an inexpensive lamp with stupid plastic shades

It depends on what your lamp is rated for. You want to make sure that you use a bulb with the same ratting as your lamp. If not, it could get too hot, not shine properly or even wear prematurely.

Can i use this with a Type A 3-way lamp that is 100watts max and just keep it in the 50 or 100 setting?

Hello you have to find the right lamp and the right lightbulb because I bought the wrong lightbulb and it only lets up one part you need a three way switch on your lamp which I have mine but I bought the wrong lightbulb and those lightbulbs are very expensive so double check before you buy

Question unclear. I bought these bulbs before ans The Blues Busters and the delivery man dropped the box at my door ( a very light weight pkg ). I assume at least 1 delivery was broken due to drop off. Love the bulbs other wise.
