The colours turn out pale. Most of the greens are very similar and the purple pink and red turn out very similar as well. I am going to continue to use them for outlining and pastel colours. I cannot get them to make the colours on the swatches on the box. I am fairly new to watercolour and this is my first time using pencils so perhaps I will get better results with practice. I just love these pencils. I paint with acrylics and water colour paints, I needed some new water colour pencils to enhance my paintings, so thought I'd try these. How glad I am that I did. They are very soft and blend easily with water, but also can be used as ordinary colour pencils. They can be sharpened to a point to give fine detail with ease. The colours can be used soft, with pressure to darken, also they can be blended with each other to give a wide range of shades. I borrowed my daughter's colouring book to try them out.
