Great for keeping plants alive when you're away!
This spikes work brilliantly - once you get them calibrated properly. When I first filled my bottles and screwed them on, they stopped dripping almost immediately. After a few days of messing with them, I finally decided I should go back and read the instructions. Wouldn't you know it! The physics of water were not suspended with this item; you DO have to punch a hole or cut a slice out of the tops of the bottles to prevent a vacuum from being created and ensuring the water will still flow.Once I realized I was still bound by earthly physics, my spikes and bottles have been working great. I discovered that if I cut a disc out of the bottom of smaller bottles or a slice out of a larger bottles, I'm able to fill them back up very easily with a pitcher, without disassembling the bottle and spike.Great product overall - just read the instructions.

didnt work as expected
when i came back from vacation half of the bottles were empty and half still full. its also really hard to tell the water level that is coming out since there is no indicator.

Not adjustable to 1 drop @ 60 seconds
I returned these. Tested with a 2 ltr soda bottle and water. Could not adjust the drops to the advertised 1 drop per 60 seconds. Water just came out at about a drop every second or two. Thus 2 litres of water emptied very quickly, within hours. Would never last for at least a couple days. Useless for my needs. Easy to put together, easy to use, but unfortunately did not do what was advertised and expected.

Pretty useless
Straight forward assembly, but since the spikes are so small, they don’t really work unless you use a small water bottle (20 oz or so).The good:@ Comes with a tool to poke a hole in the bottle so water can flow@ Easy to assemble@ somewhat sturdyThe bad:@ Too short@ falls over with a 1L or 2L bottle@ the valve gets stuck under the dirt so why bother@ the yellow stabilizing add on is use LLP since you have to shove it in so deep to be stable, if you don’t push it in deep and leave the valve above ground and use the balance attachment, once the bottle looses some water and the weight shifts even slightly, the whole thing topples over and you’re left with a big puddle on the ground watering something that you didn’t intend to waterThe spike is too short, the valve is kind of useless and the whole thing can’t stand up straight. If you want to use this indoors for small plants in pots with lip to balance on and a small water bottle, it’ll work for that.

Great Addition to Our Vegetable Patch
These spikes appear to be sturdy and very straightforward to use. Purchased some terra cota spikes previously but these have a valve that adjusts drip speed and are less expensive as well as less fragile.Summer in our area can be scorching, and these watering spikes will be a boost for thirsty growing vegetables. We're planning to soak our beds and place the spikes around the tomatoes, etc. for extra help on those days we miss a watering or are away. Will update the review if we experience any issues.

Just what I needed to help me out!
I purchased this to help keep my plants watered while I was at work and away on vacation. There were several days last summer that I would water my plants in the morning and by the time I got home from work I would spend an hour watering again!! I wanted to be prepared this summer in case we get another extremely hot spell! We went on vacation a few weeks ago and I used these on a few of my plants and they worked great! I wouldn't count on them being the only means of watering, but I love how I can adjust the flow. Because some of my plants like alot of water, whereas others do not. I had purchased the clay type too, but they proved to be too fragile. I broke one simply attempting to put it in the potting soil, which was not hard! I would recommend these to anyone needed an extra hand with plants!

Too Much Water
These self watering spikes have the potential to be a great product. I especially liked the fact that the valve could be turned down to adjust the amount of water dripping onto the soil. Unfortunately, the adjustment didn't make a difference because the product leaks at the location where the valve is inserted. The more you close the valve the more leakage occurs. The soil becomes completely saturated. It doesn't matter what size tray you use. The soil is saturated before the water discharges into the tray. I used 20 Fluid Oz water bottles. I believe this problem could be corrected if the manufacture provided a washer for the point where the valve is inserted.

Waste of money
These spikes are useless. They attach to the bottles easily but the water tends to pour out around the spout hole in addition to the somewhat regulated drip.
