Love this book about similes. My students loved learning where the phrases cam from!

a fun way to learn about similes
This book about American similes is a fun little read. It contains a simile (most of which are pretty obscure) for each letter of the alphabet, accompanied by colorful, cartoon-like illustrations. Although many of the similes are a bit strange, they are kind of fun to read because some of them sound so funny. This would be a great book for a school-aged child learning about similes. It is in the same fun vein as books such as Go Hang a Salami! I'm a Lasagna Hog!: and Other Palindromes (introduces palindromes) and Orangutan Tongs: Poems to Tangle Your Tongue (about tongue twisters).

Interesting, not so common similes
I love picture books that focus on word play. Ms. Lawlor does a fabulous job of collecting uncommon similes and structured them in an A-Z format. The cartoon style drawings will entice kids to sit and listen to the story and the author's research notes and explanations at the back.My kind of book :)Donna [...]

Okay
I bought this book at the end of a figurative language unit hoping that I would have more resources for teaching it again next year. This book is a cute A, B, C book that has a silly simile for each letter. The book overall I didn't see as being useful for teaching or as a resource of similes. For me, this book is more of a A, B, C book.

Strange Book
This book is super strange. Not suitable for second graders. I have never heard of half of these similes.
