For this price, it's an awesome violin. It's not hard to tune, comes with extra strings, a shoulder rest and rosin. You may want to replace the rosin and shoulder rest based on your comfort preference. It has an okay sound, but for beginners it's not bad at all. The fingerboard with notes is great as well. Took off one star because the bow is poor quality. Overall, serious beginners/students may want to stay away and invest in something better. As an adult learner or hobbyist, this is a fantastic violin to see if you like what you're getting into, and it'll last a while.

I bought this as a started instrument for my kiddo. I also purchased the thingy to dampen the sound (thankfully) because this thing is loud... and needs tuning periodically. So far it has survived the weekly trips to school and music lessons and all of the strings are good. I also bought replacement strings because I figured those would be the first to go - my kid gets a little excited about turning the pegs and tuning the violin. All in all, I'm satisfied with this purchase: it's a good value for money.

We bought this as a graduation present for our son as he really wanted a violin. It showed up we had to hold on to it until he was done school. When he opened it it all looked so good. Until he went to work tighten the strings to play it. The keys won't tighten on it and it un Ravel's over and over again. Because it won't tighten you can't get any sound out of it. Went to return it as a defective item it says they won't do returns or defective warranty after 30 days. Wrote the company an email about it a week ago and no response. I would highly suggest looking else where before you waste you money on this product. Will never buy from this brand again. Sorry to my 11 year old who got this for working so hard to pass his classes for it.

Pros: 1) The body of the violin looks pretty good. Seems sturdy and well-made. 2) Strings are ok. 3) Bow looks good, hairs are all in place, decent enough for beginners. 4) Case is very well padded. Your instrument will be well protected. Cons: 1) The Tailpiece -- it's 95% plastic and looks like crap. I replaced it with a better one from an older violin. 2) The shoulder rest accessory is also crap. Good to use for awhile, until you find a good deal on a KUN or some other brand. 3) The zippers on the case are hard to open, it gets stuck in certain places. Some people say you should save for a better $500 or $700 violin for beginners. Maybe so--if you plan for your kid to do this as a career, or to play in concerts/etc. But if your kid is just doing this as a hobby, part of music education at school, or just coz learning an instrument is fun or cool, you do not need to spend $500 bucks or more. You can rent or get a cheaper one like this and just replace that crappy/junk parts. Replacing the parts is easy, you can learn it from Youtube.

It's ok to learn the basics but the bow quality and generic box shape make it rather un pleasant sounding. The tuning plugs are press fit. So it de tunes every 5 minutes. Returning everything and buying one from steves music store. It's unusable. Good toy for a child.
