They're study enough to clean between teeth but not hard as wood. I switched over to them for a few reasons: 1. They work better than wood toothpicks for cleaning between teeth - they have a nice flex to them 2. They are easier to use and overall better than the other softpicks made by the same company (to be fair they are more expensive) 3. I started using these in the first place because I was using a wood toothpicks that started causing a rash on my lip. I looked at what this product is made of and was more comfortable when I reviewed it than with wood or other materials produced outside the US/Europe. There are zero standards for ensuring that wood (or other) toothpicks are safe and untreated with chemicals, for example.
