high quality dry food
I researched quite a lot until I found this particular dry food brand. Note it is more expensive than "regular" cat food. However, it has a much higher protein content and I found my cats not eating as much, not because it isn't tasty, but likely it is more filling.

Cats come running when I shake the bag!
I found a sample pack of this in the Dr Elsey Cat Litter so I tried a few out on my 2 fussy cats as a treat. OMG, I could not believe how fast they gobbled them down! I still only use it as treats because Iโm afraid they will eat the entire bowl full at once if I leave it out to free feed. Super recommend!

NEW FORMULA CAN BE DANGEROUS! OUR SENIOR CAT BECAME VERY SICK!
UPDATE: NEW FORMULA CAN BE DANGEROUS! MY SENIOR CAT BECAME VERY SICK! Dr. Elsey's in a kibble we'd fed our cats for many years and always trusted. Recently, however, the formula was changed, apparently for cost reasons! ๐คจ Yet, the price was increased also! ๐ก I was happy to pay more for a good product, given increased costs across the board, but this feels like a betrayal of my trust in them. Our kitties only eat one of the best (and unfortunately most expensive) canned cat foods -Nulo, freeze dried 1-ingredient cat treats and the healthiest kibble we can find. However, for months our 14 year old senior kitty kept frequently throwing up bile and food. It was determined that either food or stress were the most likely causes (we did loose our 16 year old cat and introduce a new one). We did everything recommended both to reduce stress and hange her diet; we gradually tried eliminating each canned food and freeze dried food. Nothing worked until we eliminated the kibble. Research then told us of the major change to the 'Dr. Elsey's Chicken Formula' we've been using for years! They sneaked in a change of ingredients without announcing it? They even dare to still call it 'chicken'? HYDROLYSED PORK & PORK PLASMA ARE NOW THE PRIMARY FIRST INGREDIENTS IN THE 'CHICKEN' FORMULA! I'm pretty sure it is not as healthy for kitties, and like for my senior kitty, it can be dangerous to some. So, I no longer trust this food and have switched to Instinct (one of the recommended brands in cat food reviews I follow). The ingredients of 'Instinct - Original Formula' appear to be just as good as this one used to be and it's cheaper! I wonder if perhaps the owners have changed, as this brand seems to care more about profit now. PREVIOUS REVIEW FROM 2017: It's good to know this isn't just junk food for cats that'll kill them faster! I guess it is sort of like a more nutritional 'take-out' at home, in our minds. Most kibble these days is guaranteed to harm your cat, though they don't tell you that. After all, there's good money in selling people junk pet food and even better money in treating feline diabetes, right? Yet cats love kibble like we love McDonalds and we all love convenience, right? When our vet told us our older cat was way overweight and possibly pre-diabetic, we raced to take our cats off the cheap stuff years ago! We literally have had to tighten our own belts to feed them better, but vet bills are much worse! We now feed them grain free, low carb food for the most part, with half their diet being freeze-dried raw and the other half high-priced canned food - Nulo grain-free and human-grade tuna occasionally. This is the only kibble we give them, in very limited amounts a couple of times a week. So, this is a good quality treat they cherish! Oh... and our old kitty has lost a ton of weight though she eats all she wants now! She has aged issues, but so far we haven't had to treat her for diabetes! It is interesting how easily she gained weight on cheap food and how many cats have diabetes or are killed by cheap food these days, isn't it? One hopes there'll be better control of what goes in pet foods, more honesty on packaging in future and that'll lower prices of quality food. The price on Dr. Elsey's bulk bags isn't bad considering!

Terrible poops
So the cats liked the taste of the food but it took so much more for them to get 'full'. I will not be buying it again because what I noticed was that at least 2 of my kitties, almost immediately after switching to this food, had the worst smelling eliminations that I have ever experienced. I have 7 cats and one thing that anyone that comes into my home says is that you would never know by the smell because I am anal about cleaning the cat litter boxes, and I use the best litter there is but it could not handle the odor created from them eating this food. I couldn't handle it either. It was truly that bad. I switched back to Orijen because I know it's good food and the odor was gone just as quickly. I am still searching for a food that has more 'raw' natural ingredients and not . Not 'meal' or 'by products' or a bunch of garbage that my cats don't want or need.

Worth the cost for good quality cat food
Great food that I trust to give to my cat! She loves Dr. Elsey's cat food. Yes it's a bit pricy but in this case you get what you pay for!
