It is a fine mist and has a water like consistency, so I sprayed it on my hands before applying and patting into my skin. It isn't heavy or greasy but it does have a strong cucumber smell. It did not bother me but it is noticeable. I definitely feel like our sunburns would have peeled if we didn't use this. Our baby did not burn but we still wanted some extra moisture and it was gentle on his skin and did not cause a reaction.
