Q: How water proof are they

They’re described as water resistant, not waterproof. There is a huge difference. That said, my water resistant trousers — different manufacturer — dry very rapidly after being caught in multiple downpours. Much better than jeans, which I’ve given up on for hiking/cargo pants.

Q: How do these compare to branded ones such as Fjallraven?

Well it's a bit of an unfair comparison as these are around 25% the price of Fjallraven? However I own both so I'll give you my honest opinion. I initially sung the praises of Fjallraven when I bought a number of pairs over a short period of time, but have since discovered that Fjallraven aren't perfect either. The zip broke in two pairs, and the stitching tends to give in the knee area after a while. The first pair of Magcomsen I got had a fault in that one of the inner pockets was stitched to the leg wrong which meant I couldn't put my hand into that pocket. However I really liked the cut of them and all the zipped pockets so I bought a 2nd pair. The material may not be up to the durability of the Fjallraven but for the price I actually think they are a better buy overall. I definitely think that 4 pairs of these will outlast one pair of Fjallraven. Also, you don't need to get large chunks cut off the legs because every pair of Fjallraven is made for someone who is over 6'6"? Would I buy another pair of Magcomsen? Yes Would I buy another pair of Fjallraven? Probably not.
