I’ve always struggled with overwatering my desert plants but this mix is a lifesaver. I moved my zebra cactus and Echeveria into this blend and the drainage is noticeably better. You can feel the grittiness, which prevents root rot. My plants perked up within weeks and the leaves feel much firmer now. It’s a clean, odor-free mix that makes indoor repotting easy and stress-free.

This was my first time buying soil for succulents, and I was really happy with the Back to the Roots mix. When I opened the bag, it did feel slightly damp, but that’s normal for organic soil and it didn’t smell bad at all. The texture is light and drains well, which is important for succulents. I did notice some small twigs and bits of bark, but after learning more, I found out that’s actually good—it helps with airflow and keeps the soil from getting compacted. My plants have been settling in nicely, and I feel confident as a first-time grower that this was the right choice. I also love that it’s organic and made in the USA. For anyone starting out with succulents, this mix is a solid option!

I used the Back to The Roots 100% Organic Succulent & Cacti Mix for my African Milk Plant and a few of my smaller cacti, and it has worked beautifully so far. The texture is exactly what you want in a cactus mix. It’s light, gritty, and well draining without feeling dusty or overly chunky. Water flows through easily, which is crucial for succulents that hate sitting in soggy soil. Since repotting, my African Milk Plant has stayed firm and happy with no signs of root rot or stress. I also appreciate that it’s organic. It gives me peace of mind knowing I’m not adding unnecessary chemicals to my plants, especially when I keep some indoors. If you’re repotting succulents or cacti and want a ready-to-use mix that drains properly and supports healthy roots, this is a solid option. Great consistency, easy to work with, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. 🌱

I really love this soil blend. Unfortunately I opened my bag about a month after I got it and I had little gnats. I’m chalking it up to me letting the product sit and will still use it but treat it to get rid of the gnats.

I’ve lost more succulents than I care to admit to "universal" potting soils that stay damp for way too long. I bought this bag to repot my growing collection of echeveria and a stubborn jade plant and the difference in texture is immediately obvious. It’s gritty, airy and doesn't clump into a wet sponge when you water it. You can actually see the water move through the soil and out the drainage holes which is exactly what my desert plants need to avoid the dreaded root rot. The best part is that it’s 100% organic so I don't have to worry about weird synthetic additives. Since switching, my jade plant has actually started putting out new, firm growth and the colors on my succulents seem a lot more vibrant. It’s the perfect size for a small "plant surgery" afternoon on the patio without having a massive, heavy bag leftover. If you’re a plant parent who tends to overwater, this mix is basically the best insurance policy you can buy for your cacti.
