Brand Story 1964年にスタンフォード大学の学生フィリップ・ナイトと、オレゴン大学で陸上コーチを勤めていたビル・バウワーマンがナイキの前身となるブルーリボンスポーツ(BRS)社を設立したのがその始まり。社名の由来は、社員の一人ジェフ・ジョンソンが夢で見た、ギリシャ神話に登場する勝利の女神「ニケ (Nike)」からで、ナイキは、「ニケ」の英語読み。
