Let me tell ya about this Moen 1222 cartridge. Overall, it’s an amazing little part that works super smoothly once it’s in place. Installing it is usually a breeze – just pop the old one out and slide the noew one right in. I’ve had a similar cartridge in another Moen faucet, and it’s always delivered that silky-smooth operation that’s just perfect for daily use. But heads up—when you’re installing this cartridge, don’t push hard on the metal stem like I did. That’s a rookie move, and it can seriously mess things up. I tried shoving the stem into the housing, and while the metal part went right in, the plastic piece didn’t budge and ended up leaking.The water wouldn’t shut off completely after that, which was a total pain. I ended up calling a plumber who pulled the cartridge out and showed me exactly where it went wrong. Lesson learned the hard way. So yeah, be super careful and don’t force the stem. Just ease it in gently, and you’ll avoid any costly mistakes. Once installed right, this Moen 1222 cartridge performs perfectly.

9:00pm shower handle cartridge broke, turned off house water went to bed. Free overnight delivery at my house by 6am, shower handle fixed. Perfect fit, and I was able to turn the house water back on before the morning duece. Highly recommend and perfect fit for Moen 1222.

The Moen 1222 cartridge usually needs replacing every year to couple of years, the positemp 1222 cartridge keeps your Moen shower from leaking and helps temperature control. That said, when it fails it produces a constant leak and should be changed right away to prevent an enormous water bill. Moen guarantees their cartridge for 1 year and if you are the original owner they will send you complimentary parts for the life of the faucet or shower. The leak was so bad we ordered this cartridge kit while waiting for the original from Moen but with the holidays it was taking much longer than expected. This kit was delivered immediately and that morning the cartridge from Moen came in as well. We then turned off the water and installed the cartridge from this kit, we noticed it was 1/2" longer than the original cartridge and once it was installed we turned the water on and it sprayed water everywhere! At that point we turned the water off and took everything apart and installed the other cartridge, after this we had no issues, no leaks. The cartridge that came with this kit was not good quality and pulling it out after installing it, it chipped away!? This is NOT the correct cartridge for the Moen 1222 posi-temp cartridge, I would not recommend wasting your time or money on this.

Had a persistent leak in an 5 year old shower install. Was skeptical as this was half the price of OEM and included the cartridge puller. Got the kit next day after ordering. Watched a Moen video a couple of times on YouTube and swapped out old cartridge easily. Supplied replacement fit perfectly and no more leaks.

Ordered at 1025a and somehow it arrived by 1145a and eventually installed in an hour and works properly. The turning is super smooth almost too smoothly. The removal tool made this process much easier. Hopefully it lasts as long as the 2x priced OEM cartridge. The only negatives I had was the retainer clip wouldn't go in all the way without some adjusting by sticking a skinny flathead where the end of clips pass thru bottom of pipe and then I had to use the handle of the screwdriver to press it down far enough for the existing metal piece that goes over the pipe. Once that was in place the included metal dial adjustment piece that holds the hot limitation white plastic pieces in place is slightly too thick for my handle so it didn't fit and I re-used the old one which worked fine.

Pricing about 50% less than original—and feeling confident with the right tools. The process, as described in the Moen website videos, looked straightforward, but in reality, it presented a few challenges that made the experience even more satisfying once overcome. One of the most crucial tools I used was the Moen cartridge puller tool, which truly made removing the old cartridge much easier. Without it, I imagine the job would have been significantly more difficult, especially since the cartridge was lodged tightly in place. The removal process required patience, gentle maneuvering, and some creative problem-solving, especially when dealing with the plastic disc blocking access to the pin. I had to carefully snip the disc to create space, which felt like needing a third hand. During this process, I also learned the importance of covering the plug hole after draining the water—so I wouldn't lose any screws—and cleaning the inside of the pipe with sandpaper for a smoother installation. Lubrication was key; I used the provided lubricant generously on the black oval parts and the inside of the pipe, which helped the new cartridge slide in more easily. The new Moen 1222 cartridge fit snugly, and the small white adapter included in the kit proved invaluable for seating the cartridge fully. Reinstalling the pin was a bit tricky, as the original pin refused to seat flush, but swapping it out for a new one resolved the issue effortlessly. Be prepared for some air surges through your pipes once you turn the water back on, as it takes a moment for everything to settle. Overall, despite the challenges, I highly recommend this replacement process to DIY enthusiasts.

Don't write many reviews, but this was a direct replacement for the Moen 1222. The removal tool was an absolute must as the old cartridge would not budge. Both products worked extremely well and would highly recommend. No issues.

Make sure to lubricate the black rubber on both side . Also a good thing to sand lightly inside of the shower unit to smooth things out .

The cartridge was about 0.5 mm too long. Due this small error the retaining component could not be installed. I had to use the old body with the new internal components installed.

It started leaking after 4 months of use.
