Weโve been using this for about a year and so far it has been very effective at repelling mosquitoes.

So I live in San Antonio and the bugs here suck big time. I have two young children who love playing outside, but don't love getting bug bites. I didn't want to be saturating them in Deet every day before being allowed to play, so I got this as an alternative. It works GREAT at keeping the bugs away. Mosquitoes, ants, spiders, they all hate it. A+++ for effectiveness. HOWEVER, the scent is very very strong. Which is fine I guess, the trade off is no bugs so I can deal with that. But it also burns pretty badly if it gets in your eyes, nose, any small cuts or scrapes kids get all the time. I don't put it on their hands, but the other day my youngest must have licked her arm or something and started freaking out screaming and screaming. I tested it out...(yes I licked my own arm) and holy cow it burns your mouth and my tongue was tingling long after I rinsed my mouth 1028374729 times. Poor kid :( So disappointed, now I have to try finding something else that hopefully works as well as this stuff that doesn't have Deet but won't burn my kid's mouths when they decide to lick themselves.

After spending 7-day and 6-nights in the Pasayten Wilderness and using this product, I was very disappointed in several ways: 1) I looked for instructions on use on the back of the bottle and found DIRECTIONS FOR USE - "It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling". And there were First Aid warnings about what to do if repellent was ingested or in eyes - call the Poison Control Center. 2) I applied the repellent to my hands and applied to my face, I sprayed my clothing and the repellent did not last more than 2 hours. I applied more and still did not last more than 2 hours. I applied the repellent multiple times. 3) Finally after puzzling over the fact there were no directions that I was suppose to follow, I thought perhaps there is a label under the visible label on the back since I had see this technique used on over-the-counter medicine containers. I tried peeling the back label up to see if there was something beneath, sure enough I found a two more labels - 1. repeating the First Aid warnings plus Physical or Chemical Hazards warning and a Notice that I am responsible for safety and use not in accordance with directions; 2. repeat of read and follow all directions, and Finally directions for use - "To repel insects, apply to exposed skin and clothing. For best results spread evenly with hand to moisten all exposed skin. Do not spray directly on face. To apply to face, dispense on palm of hand and spread on face and neck. Reapply once as needed. Do not apply more than twice per day." PLUS - Storage and disposal directions - "Never place unused product down any indoor or outdoor drain." AND LAST - Precautionary Statements - "Hazards to Humans and Animals" "Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum or using tobacco. After returning from outdoors, wash product from all exposed skin." After I found ALL of the instructions/directions I stopped using this product and resorted to swatting insects.

I was looking for something to ward off mosquitoes which we have an abundance off the Tiger variety here in E TN that didn't have Deet in it but that would actually work. Every time I've used the deet formula I still end up getting bit many times right on my skin that I've just sprayed it on no more than 1/2 hour later. I bought a package of 6 bottles of this after reading reviewers comments on it working. !st off, spray it on outside because it has a very strong odor, rub it in like lotion as you are spraying it on your bar skin covering anything exposed. It really works! I've watched mosquitoes fly up to my leg & do a 180 & flee! The only time I was bitten was on my fingers because I'd been the house washing them to get a snack & forgot to reapply before I went back outside. If you're like me & hate to put deet on your skin cause the 2nd etc applications burn, then buy at least one bottle, spray it on rubbing it to get all exposed skin & see how well it really works! I liked it so much that I gave my widow neighbor a bottle so she could come outside again & enjoy her patio.

In this day and age, it's so hard to know what works and what doesn't. It's hard to trust what's good for you, what's neutral and what is going to actively hurt you - whether it's today, or decades from now. I've used most of the common mosquito repellents with DEET, but when it was time to get something that we could use on our infants (now toddlers), we wanted to make sure we weren't using any chemicals that could possible harm them. We've been using Repel for over a year now, and I can definitively say that it works just as good as all the other repellents that use DEET. When I have the option to avoid the controversy around a potentially harmful chemical, like DEET, and I can get a product that works just as good, that's worth a little extra, especially when it's something that family and little kids are going to be using. This product really works, gives us peace of mind, and that is worth the price tag any day.
