At home innthe kennel, the whining was very very minimal the first couple days, then it stopped. As you would hear and see her snuggle up and fall asleep. I think it is a bit pricy, but not too bad for the benefit. The heartbeat is seperate and is putninside a pouch on the stuffed animal. The blanket is soft, beautiful and perfect size. We only used 1 heat pack to soothe her during the first week. The heat packs last a while. Our GSD now uses the snuggle puppy as a pillow or an object to be close to while she is in her crate. The only time our mini-goldendoodle puppy gets his Snuggle Puppy is at bedtime in his crate. We turn it on, he walks into his crate, snuggles with his blanket, & usually falls asleep right next to the Snuggle Puppy. It's amazing how calm & peaceful he is. I would not give the Snuggle Puppy to your puppy just as a play toy. Only use it for it's intended purpose, which is calming the puppy at bedtime. **Q: How long can this product be used?** A: We used it for the first couple of months, but only put it with pup when he went to bed. Took the battery out after that and let him have it as his own little puppy toy. He still carried it up to bed with him a lot of nights. **Q: How does the chewy heart fill with water?
