Strangeling: The Art of Jasmine Becket-Griffith

A beautifully presented book of some 50+ paintings by this interesting and commercially popular artist.I appreciate the darker elements of her work, her sly humour and the skilful rendering of her images in acrylics – notoriously difficult to blend.Many of the paintings are presented full-page or across double-page spreads; I could have lived without the texts – short stories and poems by the artist`s sisters – but you may feel differently about that.The volume itself has cushioned covers and the pages have gold edging, so it`s a nice book to hold and leaf through.Some may dismiss Becket-smith as cutesy, or kitsch (always levelled particularly at certain painters in the past) but that term no longer has any validity in painting since the rise of the international Lowbrow/Pop Surrealism movement.A useful and delightful volume to have of this prolific, imaginative fantasy painter.

My wife and I have been a fan of Jasmine's work for many years and were lucky enough to purchase one of her limited edition pieces whilst in Orlando a couple of years ago.We have received this book today and it is even better than expected. The book is wonderful from cover to cover. It's front and back covers are padded (something that is rare these days) and the pages are edged in gold (probably not actual gold but gorgeous all the same).This is probably the best collection of Jasmine's art that has been released to date. The quality of the printing is excellent and there is also some informative text to accompany the pictures that delve deeper into the mind and talent of Jasmine.For the price I don't think you could do better, but don't take my word for it, do yourself a favour and order this book before it sells out !!!WONDERFUL !!

Great book, with some very beautiful artwork. I got to see some of the original artwork and the images in the book are a great likeness to them.Came well packaged.

Gorgoz art book. I purchased also jasmine becket-griffith art theropy book aswell and the art book gives me ideas of what colours and shading ect. I have not started doing my art theropy book and don't think I will the book is way to Gorgoz ti start colouring so thinking of purchaseing 2nd book so I got one to keep.

This is a gorgeous book. Not only is it lovely to look through but, having had at least two of her colouring books it's good to see the kind of colour schemes she uses. 'Dress of Storms' is beautiful!

I've bought this for my daughter as she loves this artist.

I have been wanting to order all of her creations since I started following her Art. I am so glad that she is now recognized World Wide. You are an inspiration. I will cherish it!!

Maravilloso libro. La calidad del papel y de la encuadernación son insuperables.La artista, además de prolífica es innovadora y brillante, mezclando conceptos clásicos y surrealistas, y consigue hacer de lo gótico algo tierno. Mezcla lo oscuro y lo luminoso de forma magistral creando atmósferas irreales donde inspira sentimientos encontrados. No solo es ilustración. Es un arte vibrante e inspirador.

Magnifique livre de Jasmine Becket, la qualité est bien là, les pages sublimes, je trouvais les personnages de ses coloriages étranges, pas très attirants à cause de la noirceur et de la tristesse qui s'en dégageait, m"a curiosité à était piquée et j'ai donc voulu comprendre en découvrant son univers à travers ce livre, c'est très beau, elle a le don "d'embarquer" le lecteur dans son monde et de nous le faire découvrir, une réussite, je suis passée par cette même étape pour Camilla d'Errico et pour le même résultat, c'est agréable de découvrir certains univers surtout si à la base on n' accroche pas trop., mais que l'on veux comprendre d'où leur est venue telle ou telle inspiration. Ce livre est un plaisir à parcourir, les images magnifiques, et le livre en lui même est très beau, couverture soignée, la tranche est en dorure, le tout est de qualité, je recommande. Pour ceux qui aiment le coloriage il y a de superbes idées à piquer par ci par là et des associations couleurs sympas et originales.

Sie kombiniert realistische Elemente mit Fantastischem, Märchenhaftem und Surrealem.Becket-Griffith ist mir durch ihre anspruchsvollen Coloring Books mit den 'Feuchte-Augen-Mädchen' mit Madonnen-Blick bekannt (Jasmine Becket-Griffith Coloring Book und Halloween Coloring Book). Die Augen der Chibi-Manga-Girls sind Spiegel ihrer Seele, tieftraurig und ein bißchen verstörend.Die Bilder in diesem Band erschienen mir auf den ersten Blick ausgesprochen kitschig. Oh nein... diese Schmetterlinge... sie scheinen eine Art Markenzeichen zu sein, wirken wie aufs Bild geworfen, falsch angeklebt, und ich erkenne selbst welche an Stellen, wo gar keine sind.Die fulminante Ausführung mit Goldschnitt und lila Deckblatt weckt in mir Assoziationen zu katholischen Heiligen-Bildern, jedenfalls keine Assoziationen zu surrealistischen Künstlern oder Manga-Pop.Was noch? Beim immer wieder Durchblättern und Anschauen erkenne ich klassische Märchen-Figuren und Figuren aus der japanischen Mythologie. Eingestreut zwischen den Drucken eine Auswahl an Texten und Gedichten auf englisch. Alice aus dem Wunderland geistert durch die umgestalteten Werke bekannter klassischer Meister und verwandelt sie in Halloween-Szenarien (Diego Velázquez, Brueghel, DaVinci, Van Eyck...) und immer wieder Alice' getigerte Katze - ja, schon irgendwie strange.Die Auflistung am Ende mit Gedanken und Erklärungen der Künstlerin zu den einzelnen Bildern ist sehr hilfreich zum Verständnis!Ist das jetzt Kitsch oder Kunst? Alchemistische Pop Art! Schon sehr eigen. Man muss das mögen.Die Auswahl ist umfangreich, gibt reichlich Anregungen zum Ausmalen der Malbücher (zu diesem Zweck sind auch die Oracel-Decks von Jasmine Becket-Griffith in Zusammenarbeit mit Lucy Cavendish hilfreich).Ein sehr schön gemachter Bild-Band, hochwertig aufbereitet, mit tollen Drucken, der einen guten Einblick in das Werk der Künstlerin gibt. Auch wenn er nicht mein Favorite wird... beim Durchblättern entdecke ich immer wieder was Neues.
