Q: Is the moonjar good for adding bills as well as coins? Can they be removed easily also?

The slot is big enough for bills. The lids are easy to remove. This will suit your needs

Q: Tops ? do they fit snugly or just sit on container ? prefer if my 5 yr old couldn't take them off too easily, will be wondering where the $ went.

They fit snugly but I would imagine a five year old could take them off. We started at age 5 and the Spending money was hers to spend so she was always going in there. Every week, she would have to count her Savings and I would give her 5% interest. She would also need to get her Sharing money when we went to church so she could have a donation. We use it to help teach her how to manage her own money, not to hide her money from her. She's in third grade and I've finally given her the passbook/register to use which helps show the history of her money in the three categories.

Tin like material on body and plastic tops that fit securely

Q: How wide is the slot for coins exactly please? I'd like this for an Australian child but their 50 cent coin is significantly larger than a quarter

The measurement is 5/16" wide and 1-1/2" long.
