The side knobs do rotate the rings, but I would advise you to take extreme caution when using them! The internal rings are excellent but the most external ring is prone to breakage especially on the outer "turn" pegs. I would take EXTREME caution when turning the inner piece via the outer knobs.

Yes/no. The plating is NOT gold, it's just your standard gold-paint. However I also have sensitive skin and never had any discoloration (my usual affliction) with the chain. There's some obvious tarnish on my original chain but it's never transferred to my skin.
