Will this battery work in a casio mtg-900 watch? the four digit code on the back of the watch is 2838.

A search on the Casio web site does not show a MTG-900 with a 2838 module. It does show that the MTG-900 has modules 2608, 2638 or 2688. In the 2638 PDF manual, it shows the battery as CTL1616. Hope this helps.
