It pairs very nicely with an LG Blu-ray optical drive that I had already installed. I tried installing SATA drives using an IDE to SATA adapter, but I was never able to successfully burn a disc. So I had to fall back to an IDE/PATA drive. I found this one and it fits the bill just fine. I've successfully burned to disc where the SATA with the adapter approach failed. The drive is pretty quiet. It's reasonably priced, although the SATA drives that I tried were cheaper, and they were new, compared to this one, which is used. The main reason for the upgrade was to gain the ability to burn double layer DVDs, which the Philips could not. I also wanted to ensure that I had a drive other than the Blu-ray that could read double layer as well.
