The barrettes are either placed behind the ear alone the same line as one’s cheekbones or one can place them higher and along the same line as one’s eyes or eyebrows.These are pretty barrettes that look as advertised. They are a little heavy, but not uncomfortable or noticeably heavy. I pinned up a small amount of my very straight, thick, and heavy hair and it did not slip down my hair all night. I didn’t do aerobics with this barrette in my hair so I’m guessing it could slip down in that instance, but unlikely. The clip is pretty strong and closes tightly together.
