Do I have to purchase a special basin for this or will just any plastic tub work?

I believe any large plastic tub can work. The advantage with a tub made for these foot baths are that they would have an indented area for the array to sit in. But, I don't think that would be mandatory.

I love this. As soon as it starts my feet start to tingle. Not everyone’s experiences the tingles. The colour of the water changes colour. You can look at the chart to see what it means by the different colours of the water. When your done you feel energized. Don’t forget to drink some water.
