Review: Compact and Reliable, Peace of Mind! - When I first purchased my car, one of the essential items on my list was a fire extinguisher, and I ended up choosing the FIRST ALERT AUTO5 Car Fire Extinguisher. Although I haven’t had to use it (thankfully!), I feel a lot more secure knowing it's there, just in case. Having this extinguisher on hand gives me peace of mind, especially during road trips or when driving through more remote areas. One of the best things about this extinguisher is its compact size. It’s small enough to fit in the trunk of my car or even under the passenger seat without taking up much space. For anyone with a smaller car or limited storage, this is ideal. Despite its size, it feels functional and sturdy, like it’s built to do the job if ever needed. It doesn't feel flimsy or cheap, which is reassuring for something you may rely on in an emergency. The packaging was robust and secure when it arrived, which helped confirm the quality of the product from the start. There was no damage or wear during shipping, and everything felt tightly sealed. The extinguisher itself looks solid, and even after keeping it in my car for some time now, it still feels like new—no signs of wear or corrosion. While I haven’t had to put it to the test (and hopefully never will), the instructions are clear and easy to follow, so if an emergency were to happen, I feel confident that I could use it quickly. Does it need special protection?** A: Fire extinguishers are designed to fight fires, which are hot. What good would it do for an extinguisher to blow up when the temperature reaches nonlethal levels? You can bet that it gets a lot hotter inside a burning house than it does inside your car or truck on a sunny day. Look for one that displays the Underwriters Laboratory label (UL rated). The laboratory requires that extinguishers can be safely stored at minus-40 to plus-120 degrees, a standard that is sometimes posted on the extinguisher. But the laboratory also requires that extinguishers survive 175 degrees for seven days, which is not normally disclosed in product information. A quality, UL-listed extinguisher has a steel cylinder that is designed to withstand six times its normal pressure without bursting. **Q: How does the mounting system work? What do you mount it to in your car? Do you have to drill holes or modify the car in some way?** A: To mount securely you would have to drill holes. This one is actually fairly small so you might be able to secure with those double sided tape pieces with the tabs on that can be removed damage free. **Q: Does it have a pressure gauge?** A: Model AUTO5 does not have a pressure gauge. It has a pressure indicating stem (green in color) on the top of the head. If the stem is down (hidden) that indicates the pressure is low, possibly inoperable. If you look at pics 1 and 3, they show both sides of the head...ring-pin on one side, nothing on the other. More from First Alert: https://www.firstalert.com/product/auto-fire-extinguisher-ul-rated-5-bc-red/ **Q: how many pounds of chemicals inside?** A: The label states “2.43 lbs. + 2 oz.” of a bicarbonate. I don’t know why They express it in that fashion. Overall unit when filled is is 4 lbs. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Compact and Reliable, Peace of Mind! *by A***A on 3 October 2024* When I first purchased my car, one of the essential items on my list was a fire extinguisher, and I ended up choosing the FIRST ALERT AUTO5 Car Fire Extinguisher.
