What is the door weight range for this model?

It is meant for about 150-275 lb sliding doors. But for patio sliding doors even if they are lighter they will still need a heavy duty slideback because the wheels are on the bottom and cause more friction.

My sliding door opens on the outside track so the closer would have to be on the outside of the house. Will that work?

Yes, the mechanism can mount on exterior as well as interior. Bracket will work for either condition.

Once installed, is there a way ( switch, magnet, spring, etc) to keep the door open easily and temporarily?

Yes you can add a magnet that can keep the doe open.
