If one wishes to carry a "backpocket" folding santoku for defense, this is certainly the knife. Built well, holds nice, smooth opening, sharp out-the-box. Just plain cool to fidget. Three sets of jimping for multiple hold points. Since it is shaped like the Japanese kitchen knife, I had to try it on some veggies. Too much drag compared to a satin finished blade. Thin enough, but a tad thinner would cut veggies better. If I wanted to cook with it, I'd recommend the non-black version. Cool knife.
