Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?

Classic on Texas politics
I miss Molly every time I hear or see BS from politicians. I also miss her every time I hear a hearty laugh from someone that enjoys the beauty of life.

still miss her
Ivins’ first book is a great collection of her commentaries, Op Ed pieces and articles mostly from the 70s and early 80s, sparkling with sharp wit and considerable affection for her state and her fellow Texans, even as she skewers their politics and sometimes limited views of the world. As a 4th generation Texan who nevertheless grew up, an Air Force brat, all over the world, I have both an insider’s and outsider’s perspective, and I tremendously enjoyed Ivins’ similar one. Rereading the political essays from 40 or more years ago in 2021, one realizes how little things have changed in the intervening decades.

America’s Greatest Political Humorist?
Mark twain, Will Rogers, and H.L. Mencken created the art form known as American political humor, but Molly Ivins dominated it during the last half of the 20th century. Her writing was fresh and lively, her humor pointed but never vicious. She was always well-informed and insightful, adding rather than subtracting from the collective human knowledge.

A book for the Trump years
Yes, I said for the Trump years. This book is a compilation of Molly's columns from the 1980s which includes the Regan and Bush years. I think I had developed a kind of grateful amnesia about much of what happened then, but in reading these columns I was (first) chuckling non-stop and (second) struck by the realization that we have been down this political path before. Okay, what with social media and the 24/7 news cycle things are uglier and more intense, but it's the same thing. Part of me is amused and reassured that we got through it before and should do so again. The other part of me is astounded that this country falls for the same thing over and over and over. (By the way, this is not a political statement.) So get this book, read it and laugh. It's good for the soul.

A Force to Be Reckoned With!
Molly Ivins! What a terrific woman! Spoke her mind; did it with great knowledge and intelligence, and What a Sense of Humor! I'd loved to have known her! She told it like it was and would still be, if here. Her presence and political savvy is sorely missed. She could deflate pomposity with the most perfect combination of words and leave you wanting more. She had a homing sense for Truth that regardless of who got in her crosshairs, I doubt any could hate her for it because she did it with such style AND it Was the Truth. Those who wound up in one of her columns probably said "Ouch," but deep down they knew they deserved it. Don't know for certain, but don't think she was ever sued for what she wrote because Molly had her facts, first. Miss her!

Molly Ivins is sorely missed.
I heartily recommend all her works. She had Dubya's number and hammered him like a hand made wok. Her later works are even funnier as long as you are not a fan of George Bush or Shrub as Ivins called him. If are a Rush Limbaugh fan this book isn't for you . On the other hand if you voted for Al Gore Ivin's perspective will be your cup of liberal tea. Her wonderful sense of humor keeps you laughing rather than crying as she details the mess Bush made of Texas and then the Country as a whole. Truth can hurt but it can also be funny as Hell.
