Good replacement tuners at a great price
I ordered these tuners as replacements for the original tuners on a Washburn M-1S "A-style" mandolin. Removal and replacement was a breeze, the only part that was not a perfect fit was the bushings included with the Grovers. They were a slightly larger outside diameter than the original bushings from the Washburn. Upon discovering this, I elected to simply replace the original bushings instead of having to go to the trouble of having to precisely align and drill out each peghole about 1/32 of an inch just to accommodate the replacement bushings. The inside diameter of both bushing sets are the same, as the tuning pegs are of identical diameter, so the old bushings worked fine with the new tuners. Everything else was a perfect fit, even down to the location of the mounting screw holes on the back. Nicely enough, the new replacement mounting screws were ever-so-slightly larger than the originals, so they "bit" into the screw holes nice and firmly. The whole process of string removal, tuning machine removal and replacement, restringing and tuning back up took only about 2 hours, and I was in no particular hurry, actually I was trying to take things slowly to not make some type of bonehead mistake that would need some kind of correcting after the fact. These tuners are a great replacement for our decent quality entry-level mandolin, the gear mechanisms work much more smoothly than the tuners that came on this mando. We're very happy with these tuners.

Not as shown
The photo shows both left and right side tuners in the package when I received it two right side tuners were sent. Requested a replacement. Good tuning machines but it's kinda like shoes—you need a left and a right side for them to work.

Good! But would recommend Grover 309 series for more precise tuning.
This is a good deal on the 304C tuners which I bought here at Amazon and installed myself. Easy. The bushings with these were just a hair too big, I would have had to ream out the hole with a peg hole reamer or a precise drill bit, so I used the existing bushings from the tuning machines that I replaced. These are very smooth and nicely made, shiny and have a solid feel. The tuning knobs are very close together like all mandolin tuners, but these operate well. These are 14:1 gear ratio which means for one complete turn of the winding post, you turn the knob 14 times. This is OK, but for finer tuning for obtaining a more precise tuning ability, I would suggest 18:1 ratio, which is the Grover "309" series. A higher ratio means you turn the knob more times to get it started, but then once tuned up you can finesse the tuning like the "fine focus" knob on a microscope. If you want it done right, take your time and don't rush or panic. Use a peg hole reamer if you need it - you can make the hole bigger but you CAN'T make it smaller. Go slow and take an hour or two while soft music is playing in the background. Don't forget where the bridge goes, but there's plenty of online help for that part.

2 rights make a wrong
Two right hand sets so not useable. Need to be a left and a right. Completely screwed up my build. Buyer beware

Definitely an upgrade (using the supplied ferrules).
I bought these to replace the tuners on my Kentucky KM 380s. As several reviewers have stated, the supplied ferrules outside diameter are larger than the originals and several reviewers chose to just reuse the original ferrules. Because the inside diameter of the new ferrules are smaller (have a tighter tolerance and less "slop") than the original ferrules, I chose to use the Grover ferrules which requires enlarging the original holes from 5/16" to 23/64. I did it in a two-step process so I wouldn't off-set the existing hole spacing. Using a hand-held drill I first enlarged the 5/16 using an 11/32" bit, then used a 23/46" bit (both about $15 total). I could install the new ferrules using hand pressure and Grover 304C tuners line up perfectly with the existing spacing of the tuner shaft holes. All but one of the five screw holes per plate could be reused using the supplied screws. The screw hole at the top of each plate did not align, for which I pre-drilled a pilot hole using a 1/16" bit.The tuners are DEFINITELY an improvement over the stock tuners. I was concerned when turning the uninstalled tuners because there seemed to be some play in the worm-gear mechanism, but when properly installed using the supplied ferrules the tuners are constantly engaged without any dead-band.(Note: I had previously purchased some Golden Gate M-124 tuners but returned them because they were visually identical to and not any better quality than the original tuners.)I recommend these as an upgrade to more cheaply-made original tuners (I am picky about being in tune and tune often), the 14:1 ratio is not an issue to me, and knowing that I would have to almost triple the cost to upgrade to the next tier of quality (and 18:1), to me they are definitely worth the price paid.

Irish Bouzouki
I replaced the tuners on my Irish Bouzouki with these and they work great. The bushing were a little loose on a few of the holes so I had to glue them in to keep them from rattling but that is no fault of the tuners. They look great and have worked to help keep it in tune. What more could I ask?

Grover 304C Sta-Tite Mandolin Tuners
Excellent quality tuners, I used these to replace the tuners on my Ibanez mandolin which were very poor quality. Easy to fit and and stay in tune well.
