Review: Great hand saw! - The Silky Big Boy 2000 is an excellent hand saw that can be used for any number of purposes, from pruning work in orchards to helping cut up trees for firewood. It's just handy as can be and the quality is excellent. Made in Japan, where companies haven't completely given up on their own people and moved all jobs to China, this is a high-quality and well-engineered product. The curved 14 1/2" blade has well designed and aggressive teeth that remove large amounts of wood with each backward - you read that right - stroke. The full-length handle is coated with a rubber-like material and gives an excellent grip. The blade, like all Japanese saws, is made to cut on the backstroke or as you pull it toward you (if your hands slip, they won't come in contact with the cutting edge, will they?) and you should NOT try to put downward pressure on the blade as you push forward. Just push forward to reset for the next power stroke when you pull back again. You'll get the hang of it. How does that work? Very well, actually. As I said, the teeth are well designed to remove the maximum of material pulling the blade backward. The X" blade is long enough to take advantage of this while still being short enough to fold into a handy carrying length. This blade will do excellent work in the orchard in early spring or as a companion to a chainsaw for work on felled trees, trimming the branches off to prepare for being cut into length for the chainsaw. This is an excellent saw and can't say enough good things about it while it only has one flaw - it does not lock closed. If you pick it up wrong, it'll open up. If it's in a backpack it may open enough to catch and cut whatever else is in there. Like all sharp tools, you have to be on your guard.

**Q: what is the difference between Bigboy and Bigboy 2000? I think 200 has curved blade and regular bigly has straight blade? any other difference?**
A: The bigboy 2000 has a 2000mm curve to the blade and the bigboy has a straight blade. I have the 2000 and would definitely recommend the curve helps keep the blade engaged which makes cutting even faster.

**Q: What are the advantages of the Bigboy 2000 (curved blade) over the 360 (straight blade) ?**
A: The curve on a pull-cut relieves pressure on the wrist as the tension is in the fingers as the teeth bite and hold the saw down on the wood, which saves from a sore wrist by having to push the saw down onto the wood; and a pull cut is easier than a push cut on the arm muscles.

**Q: how does this compare to say a 21" - 24" bow saw?**
A: A folding saw will work in tight areas where a swede or bow saw will not fit (pruning branches in a fruit tree).  Is it faster?   Not faster than a 21".   Maybe as fast as a 24".  Bow saws shine in 30-36" lengths where the blade can remove a lot of wood on each stroke.  It's kind of apples and oranges here....

**Q: Can the blade be sharpened?**
A: Maybe. The blade teeth are impulse hardened and very hard. You would need a diamond feather file or maybe a dremel with a shaped stone and a steady hand. A regular file just slides across the teeth. I used the same new blade for 5 days straight on the Pacific Crest Trail. Probably cut 30-50 trees and limbs. Still sharp. I plan to just buy a new blade every year.
