I bought this to use as an AIS receiver with an RTL-SDR radio, for testing. Popped up on the cabin top and it worked on first try. I've ordered a second radio for permanent installation on the boat, will keep this antenna for testing and as a backup for AIS and for handheld radios. As a temporary mounting, a big steel washer and I can attach it to the cloth dodger on the boat in a flash, perfect for temporary testing or as a backup antenna.

This antenna is decent for the price at $9.99. It’s not the best, but definitely not the worst either. The biggest issue I had is with the magnetic base—it’s not very strong. When I placed it on the top of my car, it kept flying off or sliding on the side of the window, which was frustrating. (Yes my car is magnetic) However, once I mounted it on the roof of my house (second floor), it worked great! The reception is much better compared to the stock antennas that come with most Uniden scanners. For the price, it’s a solid upgrade for indoor or stationary use, but it’s not ideal for vehicles.

Actually it doesn't work for what I was going to use it for as the fitting won't work and doesn't match. I am keeping it though as I will use it on something else in the very near future.
