I have three chihuahuas with chronic coughing, gagging and/or wheezing issues. Two have progressive collapsing trachea problems and the other has a prolapse in her upper esophagus/palate area. Two of my dog’s conditions were confirmed by X-rays. All three of their medical issues are genetically related and, when they have fits, it causes my dogs great discomfort with deep coughing, gagging, and/or wheezing. While I have prescriptions on hand such as Terbutaline tablets and Hydromet cough syrup with codeine, I have been exploring different brands of herbal cough and respiratory supplement drops to give alone when my dog’s coughing, wheezing, and gagging symptoms are mild, as well as administering the supplement in conjunction with their prescription medications for extra relief, especially when their symptoms are severe and their prescription medications have not totally lessened their discomforts. For the last four weeks, I have been periodically using the COUGH RELIEF - COUGH & THROAT SOOTHER drops for my three chihuahua’s symptoms and have found it to be a great cough suppressant for my dogs with no adverse side effects so far. Since their coughing, wheezing, and gagging symptoms can vary depending on the day, I have administered it both alone or have mixed it in with their meals, depending on whether they are exhibiting just a mild cough or are having lagging, chronic coughing fits. One ingredient in the product that is a generally safe, palatable, and highly effective cough suppressant is licorice. Having done some personal independent research on the internet, I have discovered that: 1. Licorice root is a natural means that can suppress inflammation within the body without causing damage to the immune system itself and can also help with anti-inflammatory needs in multiple areas. 2. It is particularly useful in addressing coughing, stomach, liver, skin, and immune system disorders and illnesses. 3. Licorice is also a natural means by which to suppress inflammation within the body without causing damage to the immune system itself. 4. However, if your dog or cat has any pre-existing conditions like pregnancy, lactation, high blood pressure, heart conditions, or kidney disorders, licorice root should generally not be given to your pet unless approved by your veterinarian. Because of the licorice in the COUGH RELIEF product, and it being a supplement that is useful for the temporary and periodic relief of coughing, I checked with the manufacturer to clear up some questions that I had, such as what is the recommended and safest long-term dosing regimen. They replied back that “the product is for periodic relief” and “that you can do a two-week course, every month.” That’s some useful information that I feel should be added to the bottle’s instructions in the future. I also asked the manufacturer to clarify what a dropper serving size meant since when the dropper top is squeezed, it only half-fills up. They replied back that “You should serve the full dropper. If it fills only half way, you need to serve 2 half filled droppers for 1 dropper serving size. 1 dropper is 1 ml.” Doing some additional independent internet research of my own on some of the other ingredients in the COUGH RELIEF drops, I found the following: 1. Marshmallow root is amazing for easing respiratory problems in dogs. It has antitussive and analgesic properties that help prevent coughing and relieve pain. It soothes the respiratory tract and reduces inflammation because of its mucilage. It’s antimicrobial, and can help loosen mucus. If your dog has a dry, raspy cough, bronchitis, angina, a sore throat, kennel cough, or asthma, marshmallow root can help. 2. Elecampane is great herb for dogs and cats. It has expectorant, anti-tussive, anti-microbial and demulcent properties. 3. Angelica has been shown to be a great herbal treatment for allergies, specifically dog allergies. Basically, the herb also helps animals better fight off infections. 4. Echinacea might be helpful for a weakened immune system to help fight off an upper-respiratory infection or after the onset. It is known, however, that echinacea should not be given to dogs with diabetes or other conditions that cause the immune system to be overly active. That said, and while I am no professional expert and I have not tried this product on any cats, I will continue to use this great COUGH RELIEF product for the periodic and temporary symptomatic relief of my three chihuahua’s chronic coughing, gagging, and wheezing issues. And, while I have not personally used this product for kennel cough, I would image that the drops would be a very useful supplement to help relieve coughing symptoms. Finally, I encourage pet owners to always do their own independent research on any product that they administer to their animals and to check with their animal’s vet for any contraindications.

The effectiveness of this has been great for my dog with Cushing’s disease. She was drinking gallons in gallons of water and now she is drinking like a normal dog again it hasn’t affected her appetite because she’s always wanting to eat, but that’s just her I buy this continuously for her.

It smells good. It taste good bc I tasted it. Hope it helps. My dog with diagnosed with Cushing’s last spring. The only thing I don’t understand is this herbal has licorice in it, and that can raise blood pressure. Having Cushing’s can increase blood pressure too.
