After a buddy of mine showed me his Qumi Q2 projector, I got really interested in it. I started doing research and found all kinds of good and bad things about the Q2, Q5 and the still-unreleased Q7. We already have a bulb based DLP projector at home that we use in our home-theater and we're extremely happy with it. However, we always think twice before using it because we'll be using the bulb hours and, sooner or later, we'll have to spend an inordinate amount of money purchasing another bulb. Yeah, I know, a few hundred bucks is not necessarily an inordinate amount of money, but it always seems to happen at the wrong time (Christmas, other holidays, after car repairs, etc) so having to shell out that money does hurt a little. Also, we want to be able to use the projector whenever we want... I personally want to use it for EVERYTHING from just regular TV shows, to video games, to cartoons for the kids, to anything else anyone can think of. One can look at the specs for the Q2 and Q5 to see that the lens is made of plastic and, because of that, one must turn on the projector up to 15 minutes prior to the time they want to watch something in order for the lens to bend into shape and have the proper focus. Also, being plastic, some parts of the image may or may not be in perfect focus while others are. Then there's the issue of the zoom (there isn't one at all). And other issues I won't get into because I don't own one of those projectors. What I do own is the AMAZING Q7. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS THING!!! Right out of the box, I can see that it comes with a CD with some stuff in it that I have no idea what it is because I have yet to use/look at it. It comes with VGA, HDMI, and MHL to HDMI cables. This last one is for one to hook up a cell phone or tablet that has an MHL output (it is a micro-usb port) into the projector. I haven't used that option, so I can't vouch for it, but I have no reason to doubt that it'll work just fine. What I have used this projector for, many times, is to watch movies. I have a portable 640Gb hard-drive with about 800 movies in it that I plug directly into the USB input in the projector and the projector can read the movies directly from the HD. That, to me, is AWESOME!!! If it wasn't for the crappy speaker that the projector has in it, it would be all I need to watch movies. Instead, I have a pair of $15 computer speakers that I tote along for the sound (it has a 3.5mm jack), and I have a movie theater anywhere I want. The size of the projector is about the same as a tablet (I have an Acer Iconia and it is exactly the same size only thicker). The power supply is part of the projector (unlike the Q2 & Q5, which have a power supply like the ones laptops use) and the power cable is the same as a desktop computer, so it would be extremely easy to find a longer one if you want one. The resolution is great, it will adjust to native resolution, 4:3, 16:9, 2.35:10, etc... It has auto keystone correction (or manual if you wish)... Some expert websites have complained that it does not live up to its 800 lumen claim. However, I have been able to use it in rooms with some light and it has worked fine. Sure, the colors are slightly washed if there's light, but it still looks good. And, in complete darkness, it makes for an amazing theater experience. Now for the 3D option. The Vivitek website claims that the projector will only play 3D through the VGA when connected to a computer and that IS COMPLETELY FALSE!!! I know that for a fact because I have been watching 3D movies through a PS3 connected with HDMI cables. I have purchased 3D glasses from Amazon the ones I have purchased are 'SainSonic Rainbow Series Black 144 Hz 3D Active Rechargeable Shutter Glasses (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BVUNZUU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I couldn't be happier with the results. Since I seem to be the only person to have posted a review for this projector, and I have now been using it for 7 months, please feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will be more than happy to answer them. There's no reason to purchase a large flat-screen TV for some ridiculous amount when you can purchase this projector for a fraction of the cost, and it is perfectly portable, so you have a large screen in every room you wish to have it in.
