After my cat was diagnosed with lymphoma, I spent many hours researching cat foods and what my cat's new diet should be. One specialist vet had provided the guidance, "red meat, canned, variety, low carb, don't do raw", while the other had said "hypoallergenic" which can mean among other things "novel protein". My cat was used to free feeding on the corn-filled prescription dry food that my regular vet had recommended, which turned out to be a terrible mistake, but was very convenient. When your cat is sick and losing weight, the last thing you want to do is let them go hungry for several hours until you wake up or get home and open a can for them, and canned food dries up and goes bad in 2-3 hours. This Ziwipeak semi-dry food has been my solution, the only dry food I still serve him. Because it is lamb, it counts for us as a "novel protein" -- a red meat he was not exposed to before his diagnosis (I'm not sold on the merits of an exclusively "novel protein" diet, but believe that expanding his diet to include them has been beneficial). It is grain-free and low carb; the nutritional breakdown I have for it is 28% protein, 64% fat, and 8% carbohydrate (moderate protein, high fat, low carb, which is a really good combination for an elderly or sick cat). It has a shelf life of 8 weeks, and is calorie-dense, so even though the bags are small, they are the right size for my situation. My cat does not get wide-eyed excited about this food, and it's rarely his first choice when given choices, but whenever he is hungry and there is nothing else available, he is always willing to eat this, it's good for him, and most importantly it has never given him diarrhea or made him vomit (which is impressive when talking about a cat with gastrointestinal cancer that is on chemotherapy) so for that I give it A+. My cat LOVES this food. He was a die hard kibble muncher, and my vet was always on me to switch him to wet food, but the prima donna was not having it. AT ALL. So, I decided to give this kind of food a shot. I know it isn't "wet" food, and yes, it's expensive, but all it is is meat with some vitamins, the texture is kind of like little jerky bits... so it doesn't have all the added filler crap a lot of pet foods do. A 14oz bag feeds my 13lb cat for a week, maybe a little more when following the company's instructions... I really wish they made a larger size (ZiwiPeak! make a larger cat food size!!). I split his daily serving in two and use an automatic feeder so he doesn't gobble everything up immediately. if you're on the fence about this food, I say give it a try!

bought this on sale. definitely better as a topper, snack, or for occasional feedings if you’re too busy to make a plate of wet food or you’re not home and you use an automatic feeder for cats. if you’re looking at this for a complete replacement for kibble, this is certainly an expensive route. it’s a lot healthier and better with more protein and less carbs than standard kibble for sure. both of my kittens like it, one more than the other. the smell is unpleasant tbh, but it’s for them not for me; just something to note.

I recently purchased the ZIWI Peak Air-Dried Cat Food in the Lamb flavor and my cat absolutely loves it! I appreciate that it is all natural, high in protein, grain-free, and made with limited ingredients including superfoods. I hate having to write this review but I think this will contain essential info every cat owner needs. When suddenly both my Turkish Angora siblings would not touch the newest canned version of Venison, I did some research because they had always LOVED this food. I sent an email to Ziwi customer service: no, the recipe is the same, however they changed the dry recipe in January. But, if they hadn't changed the canned recipe, why would my cats not eat it? They had eaten and loved this brand for over two years since I realized that they are both allergic to chicken and fish. It was my salvation! The message from Ziwi said that some deer have different qualities and that is reflected in the canned food. OK, but, why didn't my cats reject some of the food earlier? Then, I did more research. Ziwi Peak was "acquired" in February 2022 by a Chinese Private Equity Firm, FountainVest, for $1 BILLION. Now, the charm of the original Ziwi Peak was the food was the best ever. It was started in 2002 by a deer hunter in New Zealand. Now, 21 years later, it was sold for an amazing $1 Billion. And, now, my cats wouldn't eat the Venison. Of course, the email from Ziwi said the food would absolutely stay the same, be manufactured in New Zealand. But they hoped they could really make this a popular food worldwide for cats. Obviously, the issue is a quality issue and there is a long, horrible history of Chinese companies replacing ingredients in medicine and pet foods that actually kill people and pets. So, be careful with your pet. I personally, will never buy any Ziwi food again, knowing this history. BTW, the new name is Ziwi Limited.

I've been feeding my cat Ziwipeak for about a year now. ZP treated my cat's initial weight issues and cat acne issues with her old Hill's dry food, which were my primary concerns. She looks much healthier now with a soft and shiny coat. My cat cannot have wet food because she is allergic to every kind I have tried -- but all she wants is wet food! As a compromise, I soak ZP in a bit of water for a few minutes before feeding. She seems to prefer this, but some cats may like it better dry. SOME DIFFICULTIES: My cat actually took to ZP quickly. However, the second the food was remotely stale, she turned her nose up (this was my own fault -- too many bags were open at once). She did throw up a few times. Sometimes she eats too quickly in general. It also happens if her bowl is too low to eat from. According to the ZP calculator, I was afraid I was feeding her too little and worried a lot about portion sizing. My 10 lb cat eats about 1.5 oz or so daily -- I could not get her to eat more than that even if I free-fed her. Because of her allergies, her treats are expensive and therefore rarely given. OTHER COMMENTS: Since this food is a compromise for wet food, adding toppers really seems to make a difference. I use freeze dried chicken sprinkles (Life Essentials by Cat-Man-Doo brand); other reviewers have used bonito flakes too. I also add Plaq-Off a few times a week for her teeth -- she doesn't seem to notice or mind because it blends right in. If ZP dry (or any dry food) is your main food, a water fountain is kind of required in my experience (I use the PetMate kind).

I was hunting for awhile on a clean cat food I can give to my cats with no fish. This product is great. I mix it in side another lamb flavored food. The smell is really strong that's the downside to me. But it doesn't seem to bug my cats they seem to love it! I'm happy to find a quality product that I feel I'm being a good cat mama giving my fur babies. I was nervous reading reviews of packaging being ruined and or leaking as well as cats not liking it. But for me it's great product arrived sealed and they seem to enjoy it. The smell is strong...but worth it for the great product.

My cats are both dry food addicts and I've tried and failed to transition them to wet food many times. Thankfully they love this food, which although still dry, is loaded with meat and organs. I only wish it wasn't so expensive.
