Timbuktu: The Sahara's Fabled City of Gold

timbuktu
This excellent book is destroyed by bad presentation-the type is too small and too pale, the pictures are abysmal in black and grey while the maps are useless. All this is unfortunate as there is a good story to be told in the history of Timbuktu from the eleventh centuary to the present day covering the reins of the Tauregs, the Moroccans, the Tauregs again, the French and finally the current Islamic regime. The decline of Timbuktu was hastened by an earthquake, epidemics and famine so it exists as a shadow of itself in a cul-de-sac of geography.Worth the read even with its faults.

Good book but I was interested in the another thing that Timbuktu is famous for - tea. I wanted the history and the current practice of tea.
