Mag-Lite finally got it right... almost.
I've owned Mag-Lite flashlights for 30+ years. Back in the day everyone wanted a Mag-Lite D-cell flashlight because they were tough, they worked great, they were bright, and they were reasonably priced for a quality piece of equipment you could trust. Oh, and American made too. There was also the mini-Mag-Lite, compact, bright, tough, an excellent light except that the bulbs always burnt out. Then the LED light craze came to be, and the market was flooded with cheap light much brighter than Mag-Lite. Mag-Lite responded with models that have 4 "Activity-based" modes and 5 modes within each mode... I'm confused, I just want to turn the darn thing on and have it work! I think the engineers at Mag-Lite looked back and said "You know, the mini-Mag-Lite was a pretty good idea - simple, no external switch, 1 mode, let's just make a new, better, bigger, brighter version of that!" And so they did, hence the ML25LT in 2-cell and 3-cell. Unfortunately they decided to revive the 70's and use C-cell batteries in it. Who uses C-cell batteries anymore? With LED technology flashlights don't drain the batteries, and they end up leaking in the flashlight, I suspect even the C-cells will do this. Therefore I took a different route. I purchased C-cell adapters / converters. These are Parallel (don't get Serial, that will increase the voltage and cause damage) and house 4 x AAA lithium metal primary batteries (I used Energizer Lithium, 20-year shelf life, guaranteed not to leak) and they work great! One pack of 4 for each converter, 5 packs for 2 flashlights, I will probably never replace them! Mag-Lite should sell an option like this! The ML25LT being a new model the accessories don't fit yet, The belt holders are for "C & D" sizes... it's way too loose. The new ML25LT has a smaller head, the old C-cells had a large head like the D-cell. The Red, Yellow and White cones that fit over the light will work, but not well. In the pics I lined up the heads of the two lights and placed the cone over each. It says the fit - really? I want my money back on that one! They're plastic, how hard can it be to make a new size, come on!

Perfect size flashlight for general use...could use an increase in lumens
Perfect size flashlight for general use. I got fed up with Duracell flashlights that constantly were dead when I went to use them due to parasitic drain (caused by their button switch), so I bought this, and it sits on my kitchen countertop ready for use. It could be improved a bit like why is it perfectly round so as soon as you sit it down it rolls away? Plus, it could use a bit of increase in brightness to 300 lumens from its 192 lumens. I think 300 is the sweet spot as ensures a good working brightness while giving you good battery life. All-in-all a great light and I will get another once they increase the lumens a bit. UPDATE: 21July2025 - It's true! These flashlights work with low strength batteries even though they are LED. I just checked and my batteries are reading 1.48V on both of my 'C' cell batteries - yet - the flashlight is still functioning. I'm buying another one for the truck.

Goldilocks Approved!
UPDATE: After using this light for a few months, I'm even happier with it than when I first got it. It's not too big and not too small, not too heavy and not too light - it's just right! I'll probably buy one more for myself and maybe give a couple as gifts. I wound up with a bunch of C-cell batteries and couldn't give them away. So the only other reasonable thing to do was buy a flashlight that could use them. This is a great light, built with the quality and durability MagLite is known for. It's very bright, easy to switch on and focus. I'd thought of buying the 2-cell version, but thought it might be a little small and I think I was right. This one feels like just the right size and weight. I have older D-cell MagLites with incandescent bulbs and they're great, but a little heavy. This one will probably become my "go-to" larger flashlight - the one I'll use when I'm not using one of my pocket-sized lights! (Geeze, I really need to get out more.... :) )

Won't break if thrown
I ordered the black 2 cell and received the blue 3cell. But it was a blessing in disguise because it was a birthday present for my 6yr old. He loves it and uses it all the time. It's a maglite and will last a very long time. I should know I have 2 from the 90's.

VERY GOOD LIGHT
I wish I could find a tail cap switch for it so I could mount it alongside the barrel and magazine of my Mossberg pump. Having too bright a light for intruders will blind oneself if bouncing off of walls, etc. The idea is identify a threat. With a handgun I prefer to carry one handed and use the other hand for the light and hold it way to my left so an intruder would aim based on that, assuming it's a weapon light. Shotguns require both hands, but still, too bright is not good. This 3 C-Cell Maglite is light enough for just about anything, plus light to carry and long enough to make a decent weapon on its own. It's submersible as long as the O-rings are properly lubricated with silicone gel, not petroleum jelly. The latter will deteriorate the O-rings! I mark the off position of the head with visual and tactile markings and then adjust the head to the brightest, "cleanest" focus at about 20 feet. I then mark that the same way. On my light it is almost exactly 1/2 rotation, so from OFF to Best Focus is !/2 twist with about 5 degrees latitude either side of the mark, so can, with practice, become automated. All in all an excellent flashlight, and the LED is just superb, much fewer rings and shadows in the beam than the older Maglite bulbs!
