Details about the BB Select
I chatted with Brooklyn Bedding to figure out a bit more about this mattress, since the details here are pretty scant. The 8โ queen mattress (the one we ordered) contains 840 Ascension X coils, which are 6โ high and 16 gauge. The coils on the sides are wound more tightly for increased support (there is no edge support at the head or foot, just the left & right). The 6โ coil isnโt super common in BBโs products. The 10โ, 12โ, and 14โ mattresses use 8โ Ascension X coils (also 840 in the queen size), which are also 16 gauge in the center of the mattress, and 14.75 gauge on the sides for edge support. These are used in several other Brooklyn Bedding mattress lines, including the Essential sold on their site. Per the rep I spoke with, the coils themselves shouldnโt feel firm, nor are they soft; give from the mattress should come from the foam(s) on top of the coils. Itโs widely suggested that Brooklyn Bedding mattresses run softer in practice than on paper, so this โfirmโ may feel more like a โmediumโ while another medium may feel soft. __ We chose this mattress because 1) Brooklyn Bedding is a reputable brand, 2) the price was right, and 3) it has a 100-night trial period. It replaced a Saatva Classic Soft that was more than 5x the price (thankfully still within the return window) โ Iโm still amazed it was only $330. BB is a good brand, they even wind their own high-quality coils at their Arizona factory. It is considered more fitting for back & stomach sleepers due to its firmness, but we got specifically it to use as a base/support layer under our 3โ soft Talalay (19 ILD) & 2โ medium Dunlop (28 ILD) latex layers. For reference, My partner & I are lightweight side-sleepers (5โ7 115lbs & 5โ9 140lbs). After sleeping on it for about a month now, I can confirm itโs a great bed. It does feel less firm than I imagine โfirmโ to be, but definitely isnโt soft enough for bony people like us to sleep on our sides without a topper. With the latex on top of it, itโs quite comfortable! It offers support under the latex we were hoping for, i.e. the coils feel steady & firm under the plush layers we added. It is bouncy (as a mattress with coils should be) but doesnโt transfer motion like a trampoline โ we can actually roll over without waking each other up now! It also works REALLY well with our adjustable base (Lucid L300). Unlike the Saatva, it actually conforms to the shape of the base instead of creating gaps and sticking out at the foot. It smelled only slightly factory-like out of the box โ it wasnโt super noticeable and dissipated pretty quickly. Gel memory foam isnโt exactly known for its durability, but since weโre just using it for the coils, it *should* last us as long as they do. The only minor issue is that it seems to be slightly shorter (head to foot) than a standard queen, by about 2โ. The toppers stick off the end kind of awkwardly and I never know whether to line it up with the bottom of our base or the top. For us, that isnโt a deal-breaker, but it could be for some. Final note on firmness: ~90% of mattress softness comes from the foam on top, not the coils, and this bed only has 0.75โ of quilted foam & 0.75โ of gel memory foam on top. Too-soft mattresses cannot be made less soft, but a too-firm mattress allows you to play around with additional foam layers to find what works best (e.g. adding an inch or two of high-density foam on top of the mattress/under the latex should be *chefโs kiss*).

Crazy good mattress Insanely good at this price.
My wife and I have a split king adjustable bed, and my mattress went bad. Her's was still good, so I was looking for just a cheap temporary mattress to keep me going until we bought a whole new bed. I saw this Brooklyn Bedding mattress for under $250. It had good reviews, but I was hesitant with all the bogus reviews out there, and iffy on the bed-in-a-box concept. I took a chance, and holy cow am I glad I did. This mattress is awesome. I wish I had replaced my Sleep Number mattress a long time ago. Now... people's opinions on mattresses are going to vary wildly based on their preferences, health, body shape, size, weight...so I can only speak for myself. I am 6'5" 280 pounds, fairly lean and have a bad spine. I'm a side sleeper that also sleeps on their back about 30 to 40% of the time. This mattress is extremely well built, popped up perfectly when opened and had little, if any, smell. I've never thought of mattresses as being attractive or ugly, but this one falls into the attractive category. It has a soft plush top you sink into, but the coils are firm and support well. It was really comfortable to lay in at night, but I was a little sore after my first night's sleep, so I wasn't sure. After my second night and every night thereafter, this mattress is pure bliss. This went from being a temporary stop-gap cheap mattress to my mattress of choice. In fact, we're going to replace my wife's remaining sleep number with a Brooklyn. The only downside is I was sent a regular twin instead of a twin XL, but Brooklyn Bedding (3Z) is taking care of that and sending me out the proper one free of charge. For what it's worth, I read into the company and they seem fantastic as well. The mattresses are all produced in-house in Arizona and have top notch materials. Overall I highly recommend this mattress, and for the price, I don't believe anything comes remotely close to being this good.

Very comfortable but dimensions/size of mattress smaller than advertised
I spent a lot of time researching mattresses and decided on the full size Brooklyn Bedding Select 14โ Gel Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress. I was impressed by the positive reviews and the reasonable price point (under $1,000), which is rare for quality mattresses. However, when the mattress arrived, I immediately noticed it didnโt fit properly in my full-size bed frame. Curious, I measured the mattress and found that its actual dimensions were smaller than advertised. While the product description lists the dimensions as 75โL x 54โW x 14โH, the mattress I received measures approximately: โข Length: Just under 74 inches โข Width: Around 53 inches โข Height: Slightly less than 13.5 inches This discrepancy of about an inch in all directions makes a difference, especially if youโre pairing it with a frame or bedding that requires precise sizing. That said, the mattress is incredibly comfortable. As the first mattress-in-a-box Iโve purchased, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to set up, and Iโve been sleeping well since. The firmness is perfect for my needs, and it provides great support. While Iโm happy with the quality and comfort, the sizing issue was disappointing. Had I known the mattress would be smaller than standard full-size dimensions, I would have ordered the queen size instead. If precise measurements are important to you, keep this in mind before purchasing.

Brooklyn Select Hybrid 14 Inch
Wow, what a value! After doing some research for a memory foam mattress, I learned that heat retention was a consistent problem that has been improved by the hybrid design. I wanted a medium firm mattress that was made in USA, and I wanted to avoid the expensive bigger name brands. Brooklyn Bedding (BB) has a huge production plant in Arizona that makes BB, as well as Helix, Leesa, Bear, Nolan, and Birch. Brooklynbedding.com does not carry the BB Select, and their models are far more expensive than the 14 inch Select hybrid offered on Amazon. However, the Select is made at the same facility in Arizona that I expect use many of the same materials. So how does this mattress feel? It is cool to the touch and has what is described as a medium firm feel. I agree with the description. It is more firm than a medium. Initially, it feels soft when you lay on it, but then you feel the support of the coils. I weigh 195 and sleep mostly on my side and back. I do not sink far into the mattress as others have said, and the mattress produced no off gassing. If you are looking for an affordable, well made mattress produced in America, you may want to consider the BB Select.

Great mattress for the price
Purchased this mattress for our guest room. To start off - this only a $300 mattress - tremendous value! It's very comfortable, with some surface softness and firm support below. It's the guest room, but I did have to take a nap on it once it was fully inflated. I'm a side and back sleeper and it was great in both positions, plus it has enough support that it would suit a stomach sleeper as well. It has good edge support along the sides, you can sleep right up to the edge and when sitting on the edge, it doesn't feel like it wants to dump you on the floor. It appears that there is no edge support at the foot of the bed, and you can tell how well the stronger coils along the side edge provide extra support. The support is all from stronger coils, There is no foam along the side - you can feel the coils through the cover ($300 mattress). The cover is cool to the touch and between the cover, gel foam, and the ventilation in the coils, the mattress does not sleep hot. It helps that although the foam gives a soft feel, the coils provide firm support, so the mattress feels soft, but you don't sink in very deeply. This makes it easy to change positions and climb out ot the bed as well. I contacted 3Z (Brooklyn Bedding) about shipping as I needed the mattress before the Amazon expected arrival date. They said that the mattresses are made to order, not stored in a warehouse somewhere, so the manufacturing schedule would determine when it would be available. But, they said they would grab the first mattress off the line and get it shipped to me right away. It arrived more than a week prior to the Amazon expected date. Great customer service! And, the mattress shipped directly from the factory, which is located in Arizona. It was evident that the mattress was recently manufactured. It expanded to its full height almost immediately and firmed up over the first 24 hours. It had almost no smell when it first came out of the box. Overall, a great mattress! It's just as comfortable as our main, much more expensive, mattress. This is our first "bed in a box" mattress, and we couldn't be happier with the choice.

WOW!
This mattress arrived several days before the scheduled delivery date. Being a hybrid, it has some weight to it. However, I managed to get it into my condo alone. Still, if you have someone available, I would recommend getting help to move it. After opening the mattress in my guest room, it sprang to life fairly quickly, and the mattress was already 'a little over 12 inches' after a day. Furthermore, it had no unusual smell, filled out completely, and looked nice. Also, I noticed that the cover was cool to the touch. After 3 days, I finally decided to sleep on it. Then WOW! First, the mattress slept 'very cool'. I don't think anyone would sleep hot in this. Second, while sleeping on my back I felt great pressure relief as the mattress sunk in just a little. On my side, I felt very good pressure relief with just a small bit of pressure on my shoulder at times. However, the mattress is practically new, and this pressure was minimal. So, I expect the mattress to feel even better with more use. For reference, I'm 6'1 and 185 pounds, and I never felt out of alignment or uncomfortable while sleeping on the mattress on my side and back, my preferred positions. Lastly, this mattress, a queen size, was on sale for less than 300$! It's quality product at a very good price. The mattress was intended for my guest room. However, I'm seriously thinking about making it my main mattress. It's just that nice! Note: I'll update this later in 2025

This is a great mattress.
After 12 years, our Sleep Number mattress was toast. We looked at a lot of hybrid mattresses, most ranging over 1200 for our size bed. When I saw this one for under 400 (Black Friday deal) I was skeptical. However, seeing that it was made in the USA instead of one of the imports that are also in that price range, I decided to roll the dice and got the 14". I'm not really sure where the complaints of this mattress being too firm are coming from. I have joint disease and muscular dystrophy, and if this mattress was super firm, I wouldn't have been very comfortable. It's really comfortable. I added a gel foam topper to it as I need it to help with what ails me, but we slept on this mattress without it for a while before the topper arrived, and it was still great. The 14" mattress IS REALLY 14". My bed is heckin' tall now, which I like. It makes it easier to get up in the morning as I don't have to fight my way up. I can't imagine one of the $1200 mattresses being any better, honestly. And, even if this one were only to last 5 years and we had to replace it, we'd still be way ahead of buying one of the more expensive beds that has an average life expectancy of 10 years at best. This mattress is well made, looks nice, and there was NO weird smell that I see mentioned on most of the imported mattresses. It fluffed up FAST upon opening the package as it'd come directly from the manufacturer and hadn't been left compressed in a bag for months on end. I would happily buy another or recommend it.

Perfect bed when on a budget
I got the 14" mattress in a twin size. Dimensions are accurate but the thickness isnt. It's really a 12" as some of the other reviews noted. Overall a comfortable mattress for the price. As other reviews noted as well, it is softer then firm but you don't sink in too much. Perfect bed for my daughter. Would definitely recommend if on a budget.
