Better with duct tape!
Add duct tape on the *inside* to help with the issue of nail punctures! (more below)My sole purpose for trying these was for use in the snow so my dog doesn't get snow impacted between his pads. He can't go more than half a mile in packed powder after which he stops to lick his pads - only making matters worse. I've tried 3 or 4 different "traditional" booties designed for use in the snow and none of them worked well. Most of them he'd kick off immediately upon running in the snow.My dog is an Australian Shepherd mix (best guess), about 70 lbs. When I tried to measure his paws, I got about 3" from the back of the pad to the front of the nail. I got the medium size Pawz and he still has at least 1/4" clearance between his nails and the inside of the bootie. (His rear paws are a bit smaller - I tried the "small" size but couldn't even get them on so I stuck with "medium" everywhere). The Pawz booties stay on like a charm! He's never lost a boot even after running loose or hiking in untracked powder. He doesn't mind them on one bit and he seems to have good traction with them on in the snow and ice.BUT, the issue is that he'd poke holes in the boots with his nails. He'd even get multiple punctures from a single, "calm" walk around the neighborhood on the sidewalk.I was trying to think if I could reinforce the boots somehow and decided to try duct tape! As these were going to be used in the snow, I didn't think the tape would last if it was on the outside of the boot so I put it on the inside. Here's how I did it (see attached photos):1) Turn boot inside out and flatten it out as much as possible2) Put a full piece of tape across the top, just below the top curve of the boot.3) Repeat on the other side4) Put another piece of tape on the very top of the boot and fold it over to the other side5) Trim off the excess, making sure not to knick the boot6-8) Using thin strips of tape, reniforce the outside edge of the boot working from tip of boot down the right side. Repeat on left side (not shown)When done, turn boot inside out again to end up with the duct tape on the inside. This takes a bit of massaging to get everything smoothed out. With this change, I've gone on a couple hikes and had much better luck than before. He'll still get a puncture here and there but they are much less frequent and they don't seem to allow as much snow into them as before. When I get home, I've been able to get additional use out of them by folding them inside out again and just adding more tape! For the paws that survived without any holes, zero snow got in. Even where there was a hole, very little snow got in and I didn't know there was an issue until I took them off as he never stopped during the hike to try and lick or bite at them.I'm going to see if I can find a better quality duct tape and see if that helps even more.

even digging down in between the pads of her toes sometimes and making them raw and more painful. When you combine that behavior
My 12 year old Australian Shepherd Socks has been suffering from arthritis in spurts of severe and manageable levels over the past year, and to cope, she'll aggressively lick and chew on all of her paws, even digging down in between the pads of her toes sometimes and making them raw and more painful. When you combine that behavior with the arrival of springtime pollen and her mild skin allergies, she'll chew so much that she'll even track blood on the deck, which of course breaks any pup lover's heart. Since our vet only wanted to prescribe opioid medications that make her sleepy all day, I've been searching for a more natural way to heal her paws and also prevent her from going so hard at them in the future as well. I found a healing regimen that worked for Socks to heal her paws externally with the healing salve of Bag Balm and hydrocortisone spray (we've done a lot of diet changes with glucosamine and fish oil and turmeric that have helped the issue too). However, Socks would just lick off the whole treatment immediately after application, so I realized I had to find some kind of cover for her paws so she couldn't do that. Thus, I went deep into the depths of Amazon and finally discovered these Pawz dog boots, as the advertised natural materials they're made of caught my eye.I've always been someone that looks at a dog in pity if their owner has put decorative boots or outfits on their dog, so it was hard for me to entertain the idea of getting these for my larger pups, but they've proven to be an all right solution to Socks' problem. These boots tripped me up at their simplicity at first, because they are literally like a thicker balloon with a wider mouth opening for the dog to place their paw inside and then stay in place on their lower leg. The "boots", more like socks, do in fact bend and twist and stay on your dog's leg well even while running around and playing hard. Inside them, the rubber they're made of is slick enough so that your dog's toes don't get caught and bend back while putting them on at least, which I appreciated. Being so lightweight is a big factor in why I think my pups don't mind them so much--- they only walked like little slow sad baby deer the first few times they wore them, haha--- however, these boots' LACK of thickness unfortunately eventually compromises their durability. And this is where you have to figure out what your own product needs are, because even though my dogs weren't bothered with wearing them, they didn't hold up long--- their nails just poked straight through in about half an hour of play and ripped them to shreds, and that DID cause me to worry about their toes being pulled in strange angles. Just make sure you're supervising your dog when they have them on--- which the product states clearly about on the package but wasn't in the online description--- so my idea of putting on the salve and leaving the boots on Socks all night never actually happened. We've used them for fun in snow, rain, and shine, as well as on grass, asphalt, carpet, and wet muddy dirt trails on both of our dogs (Bella is a 50 pound Catahoula Hound) and it's crazy to me how my dogs don't even feel them since they're always getting into everything, but they don't last long at all. Also a note on sizing--- it was difficult to tell if these were too tight on her legs and possibly cutting off circulation even when I had them in front of me. It's always a chance going medium or large for a dog her size, especially without seeing the product in person, but after seeing these in Petsmart stores recently after using them a few months, the decent jump in each size of this product (from tiny to extra small to small to medium to large to very large) makes it obvious I did in fact have the correct size for her.In summary, these little blue boots got me STARTED on my search for Socks's foolproof "not licking off the medicine on her paws" cure, but that's still a step in the right direction since I learned she will in fact tolerate this kind of thing and allow time for the medicine to start healing. And since you're not supposed to leave them on for long periods of time anyway (which would have been nice to know before purchasing...), we've just ended up using these when there's rain or snow, as it gives me a little more peace of mind with them having just a little bit more protection from the cold. But again, they only lasted two or three romps in them since their nails pushed through so easily, so it depends on what you're looking for if these are going to be the best product for your pet.And I can't help but show my little hams with them on of course, hahaha.

Terrible product!! Don’t buy!!
Worst item ever! Bought yesterday and first walk with them on, within 5 minutes were ripped open. Flimsy cheap rubbish. Bought for my dogs grass allergy and immediately had to go home as her feet weren’t protected. Waste of money, wouldn’t even give 1 star.
