It runs on two D-cell batteries. The batteries supply power to the ignition and LED monitor, and will last 3-6 months (depending on use).

Will this unit work with natural gas?

No, It works with LPG (liquid propane gas).

Is there a automatic timer to shut off?

There is no timer.But when the water flow stops, the gas shuts off, and when the water flows,it fires back up.

Can this be installed horizontally?

No, it cannot be installed horizontally. It's set up so that the burners heat the coils above.

Does this need a cover for when it rains?

Designed for portable outdoor use. It is splash-proof and can manage a little drizzle, however, prolonged exposure to rain/water will damage the internal components. We recommend using and storing your water heater in a dry place.
