Spinning Man - DVD

Enjoyed the Look, the Concept, and Performances Thoroughly
I liked this film because it was difficult to tell what was going to happen and I enjoyed being taken on a ride. Performances from Guy Pearce are never less than excellent, this is no exception. I enjoyed Pierce Brosnan's well-preserved looks and easy pacing to his character. I can't recall seeing Minnie Driver look more serious in anything, but she's got the goods. This director got great performances and good 'feel' out of the whole project. He is one to watch.

It's a decent watch
Well, the trailer was fabulous, lol. It's a good movie. You wouldn't buy it. Guy Pearce and Pierce Brosnan are fantastic actors, I'm a fan of both and who doesn't love Minnie Driver?! The cast was great and the story was good but somewhat lacking. The twist at the end was hard to figure out. He hurt his hand so his encounter w/ the girl in his class must've been new. It kind of ponders what truth is and fogs that notion with how humans interpret things but that's kind of silly philo gobbly gook. The truth of a thing= is what happens- perspectives vary somewhat but the truth is static. Anywho, a good watch if you have time. Tjhe pacing's a bit meh too.

Check Out This Film!
After watching “Spinning Man,” I read a newspaper review that said it was “forgettable.” It wasn’t forgettable to me, that’s for sure; I saw it two days ago and haven’t stopped thinking about it. Many reviewers have said the film doesn’t make sense, the ending especially. To the contrary, from beginning to end it makes sense, and the sense it makes is fascinating and insightful. And the mood it creates and the editing and pacing are on the money for this story. There’s no way I can get into particulars here without spoilers. Let’s leave it that surprisingly I found this essentially straight-to-video film to be the best, most thought-provoking, in my memory. All of it, truly superb by the highest artistic standards: the screenplay by Mathew Aldrich (especially when compared to the book on which it is based), the direction by Simon Kaijser, the wonderful acting down to minor roles, the cinematography by Polly Morgan. I see myself as a serious film buff, and I’m saying to my fellows, check out this film!

I liked having a studio murder mystery for a change
I liked having a studio murder mystery for a change, with good actors, an actual score, not a great one, but much better than the weird tones the indie movies use. It also had an ending, also not a great one, but okay.I worry about my standards getting so low, I'll watch anything with an actor that's recognizable, and a budget over 50k! Indies were meant to be kind of a one time adventure, like going to a club in a bad part of town, or on a date with a Republican, not a steady diet. It's getting almost impossible to find a studio psychological or murder mystery, without an "entity" or extreme violence, or reliance on special effects, so it will appeal to the lucrative Asian market.Minnie Driver was very good, as usual. Guy Pearce usually delivers, and he was fine, but this role was not as well written as it could have been.Pearce played a college philosophy professor, with some kind of memory problem, dissociative disorder, I'm not sure, who is a person of interest in the disappearance of a high school girl in a small college town.He and his family were forced to move five years earlier because of his involvement with a student at his previous job.Pierce Brosnan played a persistent, oddly quiet police detective, hounding Pearce and his wife, Minnie Driver. The movie is not too subtle about the clues it wants you to notice, that when put together provide a bit of doubt about Pearce's guilt. It held my interest, especially when I developed a theory about the killer's identity, which made me pay close attention to the clues. That's always a bit of fun.Not too bad. Better than a sharp stick in the eye, as my husband likes to say.

Did you do it?
I thought this was suspenseful and a great cautionary tale for those who are absent minded. A family has moved to a lakeside community. A young girl goes missing and the husband is a suspect because his car was in the area the day she disappeared. But gosh he just can't remember specifically...
