Smart Add on to Hape's Master Builder Workbench
This little set of extra pieces and parts was a great add on to our 3 year old grandson much loved Hape Masters Workbench we purchased this year for Christmas. I was very please to find that included in the "Basic Builders Kit" was a booklet contain instructions to build all sorts of different things and Owen has had a blasted building many of the ones outlined in the guide and several ones of his and his uncle's own design. :). I would definitely recommend the "Basic Builder Set" to anyone who is purchasing Hape's Master Builder Workbench. The "kit" is made with the same quality material as the other many of our other Hape toys and I am quite sure the pieces will last for many years to come. I am looking forward to expanding my grandson's builder collection with the Excusive Hape's "Handyman's Go-To-Caddy in the future. I will admit, Owen does require a bit of help when he is trying to follow one the designs shown in the booklet, as he is just slightly over three and some of the designs can be quite challenging. However, he has been able to put a couple "cars" together all on his own; and has great fun both in modifying and taking apart one of his grandpa or uncles creations. As an added bonus, this taking apart and/or modifying process keeps him occupied for upwards of 30 minutes, I am please to see him working on those essential fine motor skills needed for elementary school. I am overall very please with our purchase and happy to add the Hape Basic Builder Kit to our family's ever growing collection of Hape toys. I hope in future Hape will offer even more 'Kits" that can be used either with the Master Builder's Workbench or as a stand-alone product. From an educational perspective, I cannot say this toy provides any direct instructional benefit. However, when it is used in a guided or purposeful play setting Hape's Basic Builder Kit does provide children with endless practice and strengthens their understanding math concepts (mainly those related geometric benchmarks). Additionally, this kit could be used to introduce early science concepts such as simple machines.

Must have for toddler
One of the best toys I bought for grandkids, all of them ( 22 month old, 3 years old and 5 years old) like it. It is fun for kids to assemble different models that are listed in the included booklet as well as something else they come up with using their creative minds. It is great addition to the Hape Fix It Toolbox, as two sets altogether provide more functionality when it comes to building something out of the head. Also having both sets not only provide additional details, but help kids to play together as each could be busy working on own creation. The models listed in booklet are easy for 4+ years olds, a bit of challenge for 3 years olds and hard for 22 months old, but 22 month old appreciates the bright colors, and models that were built for him by older siblings.

Love this
First I didn’t know there was a bigger set if not I would have bought that one. My boy can only make one thing at a time and if he wants to make something else, he usually has to take it apart and build something new. However, this is a great and well made product. Definitely worth the price! The pieces are sturdy, no strong or weird smell and the threads on the screws work! The screwdriver and the wrench work great as well. My boy has not even wanted to watch TV because he would rather play with this new toy!Thankful to have found it and really recommend it if you don’t like plastic toys.

Great for little hands
My 3yr old really like this toy. Instructions are easy to understand, therefore the pieces are easy to assemble. Good size for toddlers. It's a cute daughter dad game, she has so much fun.

Great product, will keep your kids and possible you busy to
This product is a great product. It's made from wood and plastic so it will last. My girlfriend's girl loves to play with it, to be honest I probably enjoy it as much to. She has a great time putting things together and using the nuts and bolts to secure them. Really a great product, we bought an expansion pack as this one had just enough to get started but ran out of peices for bigger ideas.

Great set, but splurge on the deluxe or workbench if you can
Our three-year-old has had a GreenToys plastic play tool set with some screws and nails for a while but had lost interest because he couldn't make anything with them. He probably doesn't have the hand-eye coordination or patience for kid-sized hand-tools yet, so this seemed like a good intermediate step that would be challenging, but not frustrating. He likes using the wooden tools and with a little help, can build toys using the included plans. He'll also make his own creations if left alone with the set, and it's great to have found a building set that he can use independently at a young age. We've only had it a short time, but like other Hape toys, it seems very durable. The only con is that there aren't very many pieces, so usually, a child has to take apart what they've made to make another toy from the plans, and the small number of pieces limits what he or she can create independently. I wasn't sure how my son would like this set, but now, I wish we had splurged on the deluxe set or workbench. I would buy this set for a younger child, though: the pieces and tools are big enough for toddlers to easily manipulate, will work just as well as play tools for pretend play, and because a child can build with this set, it should last well into kindergarten or beyond (and you can always add a second set or the workbench once a child hits preschool).

High quality, engaging, instructive, fun.
Very good quality. Instructive and entertaining. Approachable kit, too, not off-putting for a 2 1/2 year old boy or 4 year old granddaughter. They dove right in. Our granddaughter (the 4-year old) stayed engaged with it through a good part of a two-day drive. I'm buying a second one to have more parts (plus we lost a wheel). I'd say keeping parts together (like all such toys) is the biggest concern. But this is a very good set.
