Accurate and sensitive - yet to be sure how useful
Read through nearly all the reviews and go along with the majority view - this appears to be an accurate and sensitive device. I am using it to measure residual damp in a bedroom ceiling. The humidity range in my case went from 43 to 63 but never higher. I am unsure whether I will need to calibrate but that is a useful option. Instruction manual contents were unclear on toggling from 24 Hour to All time level - but then I was told the answer was on the cover of the manual not inside !

Good purchase.
Very easy to set up and is great to use in a room with accurate readings.

Does what it says!
I got this thermometer as I am not convinced the Hive thermostat we have is accurate. The temperature has been accurate so far and the display is large enough to see from about a metre away clearly. It also has the option to calibrate.

Accurate
Bought this about 2 years ago and still on the same battery. Very accurate and no problems. Thinking of getting a second one for the caravan.

Useless piece of junk - completely inaccurate!
The temperature reading was completely out. It kept insisting that it was only 4C in my centrally-heated house. Placed in a few different places and finally in the kitchen in the warmest part - the device then claimed it was only 3C after 24 hours. It wasn't even 3C outside! This is a useless piece of junk!

That was an expensive £26 - worked for 12 months then gave up
I paid a bit more for this than some cheaper models available, in the hope that it would be more accurate and robust. Alas, after just a year of use, the display has stopped working on the humidity numerals, making it impossible to read. Changed out the batteries and put new ones in, made no difference. ACU-RITE has become ACU-WRONG. That was an expensive £26 lesson I've learned. Just replaced it with 4x smaller models for the total cost of... £3.99, for all four. Working perfectly so far. I'd avoid this VERY expensive ACU-RITE, as other reviewers have had similar experiences in even shorter timeframes, it feels like a rip-off charging £26 for a so-called premium Hygrometer that is likely to break as soon, if not sooner, than a £2 one.

LIKE IT, easy to use and mount and see!
I just received this unit and so far I really like it because it's very easy to operate and read AND it records the highest and lowest temps for the past 24 hours... it shows "trending" changes, too... which is one of the main reasons I got it... the humidity has been just awful here in central Florida this summer and I wanted to see trending humidity as much as I wanted to know the temperature... I also like that there is a color-coded bar that has an indicator arrow showing what range the current humidity falls into, "low, ok, or high"... it's a great little unit and I'm going to get a couple more, I think, to keep permanently in several locations... for inside the house where the air-conditioner is, and for the carport and garage where I have a lot of stored memorabilia and tools and also for the chicken coop... The only drawback to this unit that I can see is that if you move it from one location to another and there is a big difference in temperature, it takes awhile for the box itself to cool down or warm up to the new ambient temperature before it can start reading the new temperature correctly. When I took it out of the mailbox, the ambient outside air temperature was 95 degrees (in the SHADE)... so the temperature inside the hot, metal mailbox was probably about 110 degrees, the package was actually warm in my hands when I picked it up... I took it inside to an air-conditioned room that was 76 degrees... and when I immediately opened it and popped in the batteries, it read out 103 degrees even though the actual temperature where I turned it on was 76 degrees. It eventually read the correct room temperature and kept up with the changes okay... but later, when I took it out to the carport, the same thing happened in reverse... it was still reading in the 70's, even though the air temperature was in the 90's out there at mid-day... (I have a baby video monitor in the chicken coop that reads new temperatures immediately whenever, and wherever, it is moved.) I think this "lag time" is a drawback if you plan on moving it to different locations during the day as I had initially planned to do... The humidity meter seems to change much more quickly. All this being said, I LIKE the unit... Another really great perk is that it has magnets on the back (in addition to screw slots for wall mounting) that are very strong and the unit grabs on instantly and securely to anything metal, so it's VERY easy to put it and then take it down again almost anywhere that you want to monitor the temperature and humidity. It clicks right onto file cabinets, metal carport posts, lamp posts, cage wire, the metal baskets around fans, etc. The "24-hour log" can be easily reset to start over again immediately, too. I haven't even had this 24 hours, but so far... I am VERY happy with it... I only wish it would adjust faster when moved, but maybe it's really designed to stay basically in one location. It would also be nice if it lit up in the dark, too! The information booklet is VERY well done, it's simple and clear and easy to read with nice-sized bold print... it lists the website and support information (www.AcuRite.com) I just went to the website and it is chock-full of ALL KINDS of sensor equipment for temperature, humidity and weather stations, etc. GREAT STUFF! I think before I order more of these units, I'll check out their other products first... since I live in hurricane country, their weather stations looked pretty interesting... and they also have lightning sensors, too!

Nice choice! You might or might not prefer a light.
A smidge smaller than an audio cassette or one and a quarter USB's high LOL. What a great looking unit.I recently had a new furnace and humidifier installed. The main new full featured digital thermostat gives me temperature and humidity readings on the main floor; but, I also need to know the same downstairs in the family room so I opted for this AcuRite 01083M Pro Accuracy Temperature and Humidity Monitor after perusing others. It met all my check marks as I know perfect doesn't exist for several reasons, having worked in the industry (unless your room is a controlled sealed bubble per se). Therefore, good and in this case very good does a great job for me.A quick glance at my family room bar fridge (where an integrated magnetic mount holds this unit), and I now have a temperature and humidity reading that is almost bang on, having tested it from the position of my thermostat upstairs. Besides, my main one is wired and costs in the lower mid triple digit category, and I'm going to compare apples to oranges? Nope! But, both of these units are closer to apples to apples and oranges to oranges. They are that good. Why does that matter? I can now set the humidifier to meet my requirements that will keep my acoustic guitar and electric guitar happy. Remember I said perfect doesn't exist? 40% - 50% humidity is usually recommended for the guitars to prevent neck warping, cracking and more, but that can be bordering on too high for some homes, so I keep a happy medium around 40% - 42% when they aren't humidified in a case.A back light? That would be handy, I suppose, but I'm guessing battery usage would increase, and I like this slick modern design Temperature and Humidity Monitor layout, size, and features. This AcuRite does the trick. Recommended.

Useful device
Very useful device for checking room temperature. Would be great if it could be more easily calibrated.
