You've experienced the fun of playing Khet: The laser Game. Now take the strategy to a whole new level with Khet 3D: Tower of Kadesh. The tower contains four mirrored portals that transport the laser beam up to the second level creating a true, three dimensional playing field. The Simple rules of Khet remain unchanged with pieces still only rotating one quarter turn or moving one square in any direction. However; how pieces can also move one square up or down when positioned on or underneath the Tower of Kadesh. The tower itself adds an additional exciting twist since it can also be moved one square or one rotation on a player's turn for more mind bending strategy.

Idea Better than Implementation
The game play with the tower is great. There are whole new chapters of strategy to explore when moving the tower as well as the pieces. Couple this tower with the Eye of Horus beam splitter, and you can have trouble keeping track of the number of paths. The downside is that the tower manufacturers did not do a great job on aligning the mirrors or picking the proper adhesive to attach the mirrors to the plastic structure. It took quite a while the first couple times we played to get the laser to travel to the right end point. It is easy enough to trace where it is supposed to go, but the poor alignment detracted from the play. I have had the set for a couple years, and it is holding up fine except for the mirrors that have popped free and need to be seated when setting up for a game.

Love Chess? Gotta get this!
My son loved chess so we bought Khett last year and he and my husband played a lot. This year for the holidays we gave him the 2nd level and when he opened it he became very excited because it adds a more difficulty and increases the games' fun. One mirror had fallen off in the box so we just glued it back on, otherwise the game was good to go. We even had friends playing it and wanting to know where we got it.

Expansion game review
The expansion adds a whole new dimension of tactics. I expected this to be much more like Khet with an added level. Instead, the tower moves, rotates, and pieces can go to and from the upper and lower levels quickly. I lost the first game I played to my roommate when he used a tactic I didn't even think of, which was impossible in previous Khet games. Brought new life to the game.

takes KHET to a new level
The Tower really ups the possibilities for the KHET game and adds quite a challenge to the already numerous possibilities of the game.

Unusable
Amozon offers this product. However to use this product you must purchase Khet the Laser game. However despite Amazon listing this as available, the toy company only has Khet 2, which is NOT compatible with this product.

Really does add to the game
This is no simple gimmick to get a few more bucks out of you. It adds a whole new set of tactics to explore. You can move pieces up, rotate the tower, and move them back down to get them quickly across the board. Pieces that are threatened have a new place to retreat to. You can use the tower to block your opponent; and I'm sure lots of other things I haven't thought of yet. While the tower is cool, if you get too focused on it early on, you're going to get beat the old-fashioned way in 2D. It seems like you need to get 8-10 moves in before the tower really starts to come into play. The laser comes out on the same side it goes in, so you'd need to position at least three pieces on top just to get it back down. Probably not going to happen very often, but if you can get things ready and then rotate or move the tower, maybe you can pull it off. When the tower really makes things interesting is when a pharaoh moves up. It's trickier to get at them, but you've also got the ability to 'move' your opponent's pharaoh by moving the tower. The tower is well made, I was able to bounce a laser up one side, down another, and back up another (for 13 bounces) before having alignment issues. It does block your view a bit, but if you raise the board up (try putting the game box under it) so that the tower is near eye level you can actually see pretty well.

THIS IS AN EXPANSION SET
Be advised, this is an EXPANSION SET for the original Khet, not a complete game in itself. It provides the upper story for an existing Khet game. The description does not make that clear.
